you can use that to escape the tracker, because in the case the tracker finds some prints, they are pointing to the last one you made while standing/walking/running.
maybe the surface plays a role too. on a normal pathway my footprints only displayed from time to time with large gaps in-between and only one or two at a time - no difference with weather changes.
Footprints seem to be very random, I like stalking in the game and use it often but sometimes I can see a dino go past and I wait like 5 seconds before trying to find some footprints to start tracking but I can run up and down that part of a trail I saw them use and find absolutely nothing while other times there is no problem at all to find some tracks to follow.
Rain afaik makes them and tracking not last as long but it does not matter if its sunny or not, sometimes the footprints are just not there.
Sometimes it feels like its a combination of "I was too far away when they went past so now I do not get any footprints" and/or "every player only leaves 3-5 sets of prints then the oldest disappears".
Because yeah a lot of the time when I want to follow someone they are moving.. obviously, but if every player only leaves a set number of footprints behind them then it makes sense that there are no prints to find when I am trying to be sneaky and let them pass first before running to their trail, by the time I get there the other player has already spawned a bunch of new tracks as they sprint away.
Almost all the people I have hunted with tracks is either me crossing their path just a few seconds after they went past or me finding blood and start the footprint tracking with that instead because blood sticks around much longer than the footprints.
Only reason I wont say that this is how it works is because I have come across spots where people have been fighting and the entire damn area is FULL of footprints that should have despawned because the players have already moved away so idk, its unreliable as hell(even after you start tracking something its unreliable as hell).
