I've been wondering as to why the maps are still freaking empty although people are congregating in the North east. Freaking croc players.
Aside from that you can grow Pachy, Teno, Steg, Galli, and Dryo just fine. The only rough part is the constant battle royal in the northeast between carnivore players.
I want to play Cerato, but 2 Dilos can pretty much face tank you. Only think worthwhile is Carno, Dilo, Herra, and Ptera. Carno still slaps, Dilo is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ OP, Herra is a great glass cannon, and Ptera is Ptera.
Other then that, Cerato is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ utterly by Dilo. All it takes is 2 suicidal ones to up and kill you. Nothing you can do about it. And heaven forbid its a 4v1. Omni? Possably, Dilo? Your dead no matter what you do.
Legit the only thing other then Dilo, Ptera, and Herra I've managed to grow is Carno. And then here comes the crocs...
There 3 Vektors to count in, that contribute to this mess.
1.) One is the game itself, by defining the rules, when where is food for the players.
They do it with Migration Zones and this pretty much messed up AI Spawn System.
2.) Another is what you decide to play, and how you play. Deinos are avoidable on Gateway. As soon as you know how to, you can drink safely. Problem is now the situation for Carnis and some herbies being forced for their diet (or any food) to NE. So... point One overrides it atm.
3.) But a third one is the playerbase in total and the dynamics that follow from that. Deinos actually did struggle on Gateway, before everyone decided to make NE a battle royal/deathmatch field! This collective decision lead to a situation where just a certain bit of players are profiting from. And as long as everyone decides to play carnivore (especially Dilo), everyone will be there.
I have unfortunately not enough data for a final assessment, but the Migration Zones for Herbs are getting in the way of players agenda, making the experience dull or stressful, dependent if you want to travel those distances or keep at a place, where you know the migration zone will be at one session or the other. (I rather switch server than walking that mile).
I assume the reason why so many play crocs now, is that it is the least frustrating now, as long as you can reliably expect land dwelling people to stick at NE, the zone which is the most suitable for Deino because of that.
It is a feedback loop! :/
there is food issue with the spawning sure but thats not a Deino issue.
The gameplay style of ambushing... sure. Hunger goes down too fast to wait in an area. And before the stamina changes you sprinted up and down the river anyway, only having to use 1/4th of your stamina for the actual ambushing part because of cheesing the ability.
Even with the stamina changes people just sprint and cheese the ability and hunger drain hasn't been adjusted all that much.
So... sprinter ambusher? Sure. Except you can't see it until it is very close or do anything once you're grabbed. And they guard a resource you need frequently.
So, functionally a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ god of water that you have to pray will let you live another day.
deino is the noob eater of the game...i must admit the game could give you a tutorial tho so that players like you learn better way to survive.... and again food spawn is a huge issue for everyone , deino is not. when you die to a deino its 100% on you as there is so many way to avoid them completly. why dont you drink behind rocks and wood ? or on the waterfall rock formation where deino cant reach , look at ripples , hear for noise , bait/fake drinking and then move elsewhere , be subtile ? stay in bushes , wait for an other dino to drink and go drink a little bit further , go at night and stay in the very shallow part of the water so deino cant see you from underwhater.
in that kind of game you either learn and move on/survive or you complain on the forum with nothing changing at all
I don't appreciate Deinos trying to eat me, just for them to find out that I'd kill them instead. I even leave their corpse on the beach for other predators.
So instead beautiful lakes, mountain streams, small ponds and other unique water sources - we have every water source desinged arround deino for the sake of jumpscares.
I think this is mostly because the dino is just straight up overpowered and they don't have to think, you don't need to be a deliberate ambusher who carefully has to stalk their prey without getting noticed setting up the perfect moment when all that is taken care of for you by the game just doing it for you, no skill or thought necessary, once the prey arrives, click one button for a one shot kill that they can't even do anything to avoid, and even if they dart from one spot of the pond to the next it doesn't matter because the deino can move faster than anything in the water and go right to the player, once there is any kind of meat near by it just accelerates the process as more and more come to the water edge to try to get food
just be in the water, where every other player *has* to go to just stay alive, and often has to get near or go straight through to travel at all
on top of all this, once a deino is in the water it's completely impervious to attack, and even outside the water they can hold their own and have to really eff up to actually get killed
another thing is they literally get infinite free food that only they can access and gives them diet
they need to add radioactivity or some kind of deino-specific poison into the waterways to actually make deino have a slight issue of some kind to deal with, make them start to get eaten away by acid if they are in the water too long
it's just completely absurd and imbalanced
Deino is in fact one of the more "deliberate" dinos in the game, you have to prepare and plan almost everything in advance.
Where are you going for the ambush?
How are you getting there? walking on land over any sort of distance is not just "oh well lets gooo!"
How are you ambushing? almost all water sources have "safe" spots to drink from, do you set up in a bush or something instead?
What you are describing is not OP Deinos with no situational awareness getting kills on players because the game is centered around them but land dinos/players with no situational awareness getting killed because they lack any self preservation instinct and think they can just go to whatever water that is closest and most convenient for them to drink and the game should be changed to enable that behavior, because you are lazy and cant bother to plan or be careful about where you drink.
Basically everything you said about Deino is in fact not the Deinos fault, but the land players being idiots and getting eaten for being idiots.
Playing Deino and catching non-idiot players DOES require planning and preparation because unlike you they do not just walk up to the deep end and drink hoping there is no Deino, they drink from spots where even if there is a Deino, they have enough time to run.
I have not been eaten by a Deino on Gateway yet because unlike you I "deliberately" drink from places where I feel safe. Well I have taken risky drinks too when I dont really care if one gets me or not but only risky in a way of "if a Deino happens to pass through here they could get me", never drink from anywhere near a hotspot unless its a safe place.
I feel personally attacked as I did a trek from 1 water source to another with "LET'S GOOOOOOO" mentality. That swampy pond was really good for me to hide in and I even did a trek to a 3rd source cause I think the fish were giving me away.
