at the moment, the difference between either game is how gamplay works (percise movement vs alt attacks), (cooldown vs animation speed), and the effectiveness/result of the attack.
My opinion
Genres:
-PoT Is more a Dino mmorpg with lite survival elements (lite death penalty, questing, home decorating, hotbar attacks, skill trees, multiple character slots)
-The Isle is more a true Dino survival (permanent death, one character slot, higher level of player skill in combat, unique built in mechanics for each Dino, no other game fillers so far like questing)
Animations and Graphics:
-PoT is simpler on the range of animations each Dino has particularly in combat, and graphics are more cartoon in appearance)
-The Isle has very detailed animations and often unique animations for a variety of Dinos, Graphics are more in the realistic realm
Playerbase type:
Lot of overlap, but
-PoT is more for the casual player with multiple characters per server and little in the way of a death penalty
-The Isle more for the hardcore survival player, a brutal game play cycle, death just around every tree, far more frustrating and unforgiving
Mods:
-PoT has a huge modding community full stop
-The Isle has had extensive modding in the past, planning to bring it back one day in Evrima, but not for now
Populations and player ratings:
-PoT has a large population and is well received for the most part, the future looks very bright particularly as it's on many platforms
-The Isle has a good and steadily growing population (PC only), also has 'very positive' player reviews as per steam, game has a lot of interest/hope directed at it, and expectations are often very high which for many is hard to take when not reached in time, has a bright future
a couple of weeks ago I took path of titans, after discovering the existence of server realism (community)
What I can say is that it reminds me a lot of island fun.. The main difference is that the night in pot is not night.
In my opinion if they make the night like in the isle and add the sense of smell to the dinosaurs then Pot would win the match (I'm talking about the realism servers of the community).
If you use vanilla PoT on official servers it's an arcade game (I don't like it).
The isle remains superior for animations, though with few usable ones
I feel PoT is superior since it respects my time more in several ways.
Both games have inconvenient lag, mixpackers, cannibals, and things like that so It's hard to judge them on that front. I do think there is more diversity of gameplay in PoT, and I think they will keep that advantage for years to come, given The Isle's glacial development.
Having more productive devs is also a point in PoT's favor, though it also seems to help that they have a clearer vision of what they actually want to make.
Don't really care much for the lore in The Isle, since it is just fluff that doesn't matter. Unless they plan to actually incorporate the lore in the game in a meaningful manner in a near future I question the need to even mention it.
agree, I tried PoT. Hated every second of it.
PoT is kinda competing with Draconia, which is another creature type open-world "MORPG", but that's with dragons. Has some of the same plans as PoT, it seems.
(And it iss 50% off right now)
