You actualy convinced me to buy Path of Titans.
Can't change the low LoD unfortunately but it's not that big of a deal to me.
Awesome thank you. I will give it a try sometime.
If you're an Isle player and you prefer the feel of the legacy version, then give PoT a try because the first words out of my mouth once I started playing it was "Oh, it's just like legacy Isle." This shouldn't come as much of a surprise as the programmer for PoT is the same person who worked on the old version of the Isle. It doesn't seem like they've really learned or changed much of their work because at times I legit forget I'm not playing some modded version of legacy. Despite PoT trying to differ itself by trying to be an MMO, it still has the same feel, for better or for worse.
There are a few grumblings that I have when it comes to PoT.
-Babies are generally slower than adults so you're more likely to use up all your stam if you're playing with someone who's further along in their growth
-You will come to HATE any area that isn't open because they filled the forests with tons of little rocks, stumps, and fallen trees that your dinosaur cannot walk over, causing you to have to navigate around a maze within a dense amount of trees
- The quests feel less like a unique function of the game and more like a mind numbing task you have to do to distract you from the fact that you are growing. They tend to fall under "Gather lots of this thing" or "Deliver this item to this spot a few times". It's easily my least favorite part of the game, but you need to do it if you want to grow, and even if you're on a server with passive growth, you'll need those points to unlock combat abilities or skins.
- This is a general issue for all of these creature survival games, but the world is pretty empty. Even with servers maxed at 100 players, people tend to gather in certain locations and if you wander around to explore you aren't going to see a ton of people.
-Skins only have five color options per marking location? And people complained about the Isle not having enough choices, I'm sitting here scratching my head wondering where the rest of the color pallet went. Skin design is very restrictive so better hope you like what scraps they give you. I've loved certain patterns, but can then find myself struggling to find colors I want to use.
- Combat is terrible. No, not the abilities or things like that, but the game is so laggy that it can be impossible to tell where your foe is. When you have a game that has pvp elements and relies on you being able to hit or enemy, you need to know where your target is. I could be running at a foe, biting on them, but two seconds later they teleport away from me and are out of my reach. It actively makes me want to avoid combat for how broken it all is.
Things I like about PoT
- I am honestly impressed with the map layout and how they manage to blend the different environments so seamlessly. I've never felt environmental whiplash before as there are subtle changes and great care taken to ensure that areas mesh well with one another.
- The models for the creatures are quite nice and many of the skins are fun to look at (even if the game heavily restricts how you can change them).
- I like being able to swap around what attacks are configured to what buttons.
- Having some slight variations between the dinosaur models is fun, though the t-rex looks pretty doofy with their teeth jutting out on most of them. One has full lips, why can't the others?
- The game is very much a chill chat box where you play as a dinosaur and sometimes fight, and I'm cool with that. Sometimes you just wanna relax and pall around with your friends.
I have been having fun on PoT...but at the end of the day I am going to prefer the more immersive, survival horror vibe that the Isle is going for. PoT is tiding me over, but I can't see myself sticking with it long term. While people will complain about the isle taking it's time updating or having a small roster, I'd much rather the developers actually learn from their first experience making the game in order to craft something better, because PoT reminds me of what would happen if they just caved and did what the complainers want; a game that is playable, but lacking in quality or any deep substance. They have a ton of creatures, but many of them feel unfinished in terms of their abilities and the game itself just...feels like a different version of the Isle. You won't get much that's new or interesting, but it will scratch that itch you have to be a dinosaur.
It's hilarious that all the guys that say PoT is "better" only say that due to community servers that mod the game to be more like The Isle. Lol
However, for me, for months now its continuous and major development problems outweigh its small advances, and since then I have uninstalled it, although I follow its infernal development with little hope placed on it.
As for PoT, well, it does not achieve the immersion of The Isle, the combat system and animations are much simpler and more basic, when you die you are barely penalized, a tedious growth system based on very repetitive missions, and it feels quite far from the survival elements, which makes both games really different.
Despite all this, at the moment it is the best alternative, and even today (and I never thought I would say this) I recommend it before The Isle, and it is also true that PoT is a less ambitious project, but it is a fact that its development is better in every way, the game feels much more fluid, optimized and stable, in every way, so...
Congratulations Dondi.
1. Dondi makes the game not for the players, but for himself
2. Dondi presents the artificial complication of the gameplay as an “improvement” of the game, but this is far from the case. The main function of the game is to entertain the player, and not turn into a tedious “work”.
3. Dondi announces too much of the game and follows through too little.
4. At the moment, as a project, The Isle is losing to the Path of the Titans, since the Titans entertain the player, with very good optimization, and conduct a dialogue with the players.
5. In the long term, The Isle will be bogged down with "millions" of unrealized "plans" while the Titans grow their fan base.
The sounddesign, the animations, the models, the mechanics, the atmosphere, lightning, ...
POT was promising and I followed it but it took a diffrent turn than it was suposed to and to me, POT is rather unpolished.
personally i am sticking with isle/Beast of Berumda purely down to not wanting to waste time creating acount on multiple platforms.
And personally went with the isle.
It really depends on what you want from the game, for all the isle´s problems i felt the mechanics were overall better.
-PoT dinos don´t have as much uniqueness as i would have liked.
-Fighting felt very stiff by comparison, fights between dinos in the same weight class take forever.
-The growth being tied to very boring gathering missions. (Altho some community servers fix that issue)
-It has survival mechanics but they have minimal impact.
-The community is nice, but most servers devolve into everyone hanging out and chatting in one area.
But:
-I feel like the game respects your time a bit more.
-Lots of kinds of community servers and mods.
-Very frequent updates.
A overall more chill experience.
