So what exactly is the counter to camping crocs?

Your thirsty and you need to drink - do you have go-to spots around the map? Please share cause I don't get what the meta is supposed to be on the crocs.

You can't sniff for them, they can see a blue marker on their map when you're drinking. What is the counter I'm missing aside from travelling to like 2 spots on the map where you can drink freshwater without crocs?

Maybe you should play a croc and get a mental map of the rivers. You might find places that are annoying to try and ambush from. This will give you ideas for how to work around them with other animals. Also, pick spots with physical obstacles. I've dodged a croc by just having a stump or a rock in my way to make pouncing me more awkward if they come blindly. (something a lot of them will do)

There should not be a counter. It should always be risky to drink. Thats the whole point of having the croc in game.

This is what I am doing now. Still kinda broken that the croc can one shot the ptera with no chance of counter. I get that you can fly away to a water hole but then the deino's don't get to catch ptera's at all. It's not balanced in either direction.

You try using scent to reveal tracks (recent traffic on the shorelines!) or gore, bodies in and around the water? 2 pretty easy ways to tell if you're likely to get attacked by a player. Not just a deino, but the land dinos, too.

There's no 100% safe way to drink, tho. There's always chances encounters at the best of times, but you can reduce that risk by knowing there the popular spots are. Play as a deino to learn where those are! They had to learn that too?

Play everything, that way you know about all the dinos.

Pteranodon get oneshotted by nearly everything. Nothing broken about that. Nothing can catch a pteranodon if the player knows what he does....

there's a handful of safe spots, none of them are truly safe given deinos speed and broken hitbox but it gives you a better chance to react. not sure how to show the exact locations here so here are some spots summarized

river that goes into the center water cavern has a whole lot of shallow stretches
nw waterfall spot where you can be on the cliff and drink from the upper river
end of shallows that's further from center (ironic)
spots in swamp mostly to the left side of the dam if you're coming from the main river
river that goes into swamp from outside the world border
south spawn river is mostly safe

and many more harder to remember, less safe spots. not that any of this of this matters given the new map is coming in about a year now. if only deinosuchus was balanced, you wouldn't have to metagame ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ drinking every 20 minutes.

The counter is an abundance of water and shallows. Avoid drinking from the popular areas and try to drink from shallow water when possible so the crocs can't stay submerged before striking.

The river systems are MASSIVE. There so many spots that Deinos never go, Deinos stick to populated areas, for obvious reasons.

So if you want to drink, dont go to the river at Utah Rock.

The Ptera? The ptera has tissuepaper health on purpose and they're really easy to grow. Don't feel too bad for the dienos not catching Pteras either. Pteras are barely even one bite of food for a dieno and the nutrient they give can be acquired other ways. The dienos that go for pteras do it because most dienos wait long periods for any targer and therefore will go for a ptera because it is something to go for. (Plus most successful ptera catches I have seen from dienos are actually usually done while they are fishing. The ptera has a moment of not being careful and they criss cross over the same fish spot too much...BAM! Dienoed)

seriously.... player base gotten that stupid they cant figure out simple things like that?
