I agree that venom should function like... venom. lingering effects should definitely be a thing. I would like to see troodon be almost like a viper. Meaning it should be an animal that other animals are wary of because if they get bitten it could cause them to vomit and lose food, lose stamina quickly or something similar. A bright colored, small venomous creature that you dont want to accidentally step on, but that can be one shot by most things. so the "viper" doesnt want to start fights with big things in general.
Because the reality is, that the bulk of people who will play troodon will not be able to find mass hordes of troodons to play with. So i feel it kind of weakens or hurts the animal by building it around almost requiring a mass pack to be effective at surviving. It should be an option, but i feel it should be more like a once in a while thing. Like a locust horde where the right conditions just occur and you get this one giant troodon pack roaming around terrorizing the map.
But otherwise i feel it should be reworked to be a decent solo small predator. A nightmare for small dinos and babies, and a danger to slightly bigger dinos. a nuisance to bigger ones. Just a fly to the biggest. Like a venomous snake. Hunting small to medium sized animals by utilizing it's venom.
The venom would obviously lose potency the bigger the animal that they bite, is. So a solo troodon wouldn't be able to take out young rexes, or adult carnos etc... But it WOULD be able to sicken a medium sized dino like teno or carno. As a type of defensive mechanism. It wouldn't need to be vomiting either. Even something like causing them to lose speed, stamina quickly for a short period. Maybe even require a locational attack. So to lower the risk of trolls abusing it. Like a adult carno would need to be bitten on the neck or chest or something, for the serious effects to work.. idk. Not perfect and smarter folk would probably work out how to lower risk of troll abuse of the mechanic and make it viable.
Troodon does needs a few adjustments. my take on Troodon venom would be one long, overall timer. you pounce and the timer starts; the longer the creature has been envenomed the more damage it takes from further venom attacks.
- pounces from other Troodons speed up the timer by 0.25%. a very small increase, but swarms become quickly terrifying. the speed multiplier fades after 10 seconds of not being applied, as to not make hunts *too* quick. this encourages and rewards group play more than just having to quit because you ran out of stamina. speaking of, the stamina pool is greatly increased while the stamina regeneration is greatly decreased. Troodons can be outlasted if you play good enough but you can't just outright run from them whenever you want to, as it currently is.
- the base venom damage would still be potent, enough to kill juveniles.
- at 1 minute of venom the Troodons make *one* noise and does *one* head bob, doing 1.5x damage.
- at 2 minutes the Troodons make *two* noises and does *two* head bobs, doing 2x venom damage.
- at 3 minutes, the Troodon does *three* noises and *three* head bobs, the creature takes 3x venom. this is the final stage.
venom goes down a stage after 30 seconds of no venom being applied, and you can smell to see a blue cloud emitting from the creature. the venom makes the target to reek, producing a cloud of scent. the scent becomes larger the more potent the venom.
this set-up could encourage different hunting tactics, one where everyone spends their energy at the beginning of the hunt to speed up the timer, or one where they wait patiently for stage 3 to use all their energy on damage. and a solo, skillful Troodon would still be able to do some damage to creatures like Pachy or Galli with the stamina pool increase, making it not entirely useless alone.
