The Isle

So hows mating going?
Just wondering if randoms actually nest currently or are they just going at each other's necks as expected, I'm hoping this mechanic wasn't a waste. 👩‍🦯👩‍🦯👩‍🦯

Lately I'm not seeing anyone nesting, and I can't find any nests to join in, so I think that the new update ruined it. I mean, why would you want to have babies if you can kill and dismember everything in sight?

Nesting is a lot of work for 4 eggs. Was cool once but not doing it again. I should mention this was done as a Ptera where the nest was safe from everything but ptera's and I imagine finding building materials is also easier due to being a flying species. I couldn't imagine doing this and then having the nest trashed. Easier to just hit the respawn button and try to find your group again. The opportunity cost of a nest is way too low.

Idk maybe cause I don't want to kill and dismember everything, maybe I want to actually enjoy this game other aspects. Maybe I want to be actually engaged and immerse myself into being an actual prehistoric dinosaur.
Question: Do people really on see dinosaurs as nothing but killing machines?

What incentive is there gameplay wise for doing anything but roaming and killing in the game? Carnivores are rewarded for it cause they get to eat what they kill. Herba's get one less threat by doing it successfully. Outside of exploration, RP and finding food there is no gameplay (and remember some people don't care about exploration or RP) incentive. That leaves being a killing machine.

People are only going to nest if they make a concerted effort too and are doing it just to say they have nested. There is no reward for nesting and it is an arduous task easily ruined by other players. Like I mentioned, I did it with a Ptera (which is arguably the easiest to do it with) and I wouldn't do it again. First egg was lost due to random player suicide (yes we made the nest public). My nest mate couldn't find nesting material (possible bug). Nesting material takes time to spawn, sometimes went a day without finding anything. It took 4 game days to make the nest.

They made nesting way to overly complex and I think that's a major factor as to why barely anyone uses them.
Nesting was literally fine in Legacy. Press B to build a nest. Lay in it, and eggs will slowly spawn in. Then you can invite people to be nested in. That's all it was, and that's all it needed to be. We don't need different nest types and we don't need to gather materials for a nest, and we don't need to manage f**king warmth.
Some of the new mechanics are fine. Needing a male to properly begin the nesting process actually adds an insensitive to interact with other players, and having to actually feed your babies rather than having them eat from the nest encourages interaction between adults and babies. Everything besides that is just completely unnecessary.
The devs are trying way too hard to make the game "realistic" even though there's going to be mutated dinosaurs with bullet resistant armor in it at some point.

I'm just saying that at some point for me at least killing gets really boring, yeah sure its fun for maybe like 2 hours into the game but it's good settling as well gives you something else to occupy yourself with and challenges you despite giving you no reward for it, kinda like how good of a parent would you be challenge, ik it's stupid but this game is so boring, especially with the kind of players that you have to deal with every single server not even playing stego is viable option cause people use stegos to kill other stegos.

I have yet to be killed by a random parent. I have heard of some folks bringing randoms in and having one of their kids go murderous but I haven't experienced that myself either. I did have an egg get glitched and sometimes a child get themselves killed. Lag plus baby Pteras + cliff = bad.
So people do occasionally nest. Hypsis and Pteranodons seem to do it the most often. I have visibly seen a pachy nest and a drio nest just once. I've been nested as a stego and a raptor. I've attempted nesting as a hypsi (once never got the chance because the server was being weird and second my mate insisted on a dangerous spot and we got eatted). I've successfully nested Pteranodons a couple times. I think weirdly their nesting material takes longer to spawn then the hypsi or tenonto for some reason. I've successfully nested tenontos.
Anyway it's doable with randoms. But you also can leave your eggs private and send a code to your friends to make sure you only have trusted babys if you want. While it's certianly possible to have someone from within your group cause trouble its way more likely for your nest to just be trashed by passerby. Nesting groups are noisey and notisable so go out of your way to find a not populated part of the map. That alone is really what makes Pteranodons easy. Because only flyer so they can nest in spots that are strait out of reach by anything other then other Pteranodons.

Nesting works and I get a nest down every session as a raptor, I've no idea what the other people here are doing if they fail to nest and die constantly.:steamfacepalm:

Now it will be more difficult for apexes to create mega packs.

Nesting part is like a New Family Vibe !
Basicely u choose a certain area and u can nest as herbi so u can defend ur babys feed em and so on..
or also For Group ! if we get bigger maps nesting will be cool future to have around !

I for one like how nesting was changed as it makes it much more taxing on the parents, therefore making nesting in the first place a much more significant decision.
