The Isle

The Isle

So, what is the point of this game?
Looks interesting, and seems to be a fun social game. But I'm not sure exactly what the goal of the game is. Do you refill your food and water meters every so often, and run around looking at dinosaurs while talking to friends?

Its a game that takes Dinosaurs in a hardcore direction alongside a Horror angle for human gameplay which will be introduced at a later date. It is partly social if you play a herbivore or the small to medium carnivores, and a lot of fun, but when it comes to conflict and combat, it is very cut throat and punishing. Being on your own in the silence of the woods is a common aspect for the solo player, or the player running to link up with his/her group.

Ask though what comes to mind. People will try to answer.

If your type of game is immediate action like pubg or fortnite or something like that then you might not like this but then again who knows. There are different servers too with different rules and maps and players counts.

On the official servers it is survival on a massive map. You are trying to grow and survive and though sometimes it may be very slow and quiet for a bit you WILL see crazy ♥♥♥♥ go down. There will also be scary moments like being in a bush at night and hearing booming footsteps then hearing loud snorting and sniffing as something walks around you in the dark.

Once you hit adult you keep trying to survive and PvP. Everyone dies and there is a ♥♥♥♥ load of replay value considering how long it takes to grow dinos and how many there are. It is insanely fun and addicting.

It's kind of like Dayz with dinosaurs and WAY better graphics and a more unique concept.

Aside from that it is fricken $20 lol I mean it 100% WORTH $20.

^^^ this. for 20 bucks, Ive gotten beyond some 700 hours or so. I have to go look again, but this game has a surprising amount of replay value.

Never played Fortnite/PubG/Apex. I did play a fair bit of TheHunter though, and I adored that one.

Sounds intriguing. I don't have many friends playing this game currently. Would I be able to enjoy it with randoms?

Sweet. Do you get to choose what dino you pick in survival mode? Is it relative easy to survive?

Yes, you're able to enjoy it with randoms. I'm still fairly new myself (nearly 50 hours clocked) and last night I was a lone carnotaur and I went to a popular spot and i got adopted into a pack of carnos. We eventually ranged until 7. There's a party chat and stuff which you can use to communicate. Obviously voice will always be superior, but combat isn't super complicated, just very punishing. Once you understand the basics, all you gotta do is read the field to see what's happening and what everyone is doing and make sure you don't bite your own.

I've played with them for hours and it was amazing. Great experience.

And yes you get to pick what dino you are. You can pick either a herbivore or Carnivore. They all have a few dinosaurs to them.

Some are harder to grow than others. Trex is very punishing in surviving and you'll have to have a sound understanding of the mechanics to survive solo as one.

On the other hand, carnos and raptors are relatively easy to survive as due to their speed, survivability and they usually pack together, especially raptors. I think getting a raptor pack allows you to calmly figure out the game. Carno is my favorite because of it's easy hunger management.

Basically you begin as a juvenile and you slowly grow over time towards an adult. Can't speed this up, only time can.

Interesting, thanks for the info. I figured if I were to start as something, I'd probably want to play as a Utah. Always been my favorite. Also, I'd have to play with randoms - only have 1 other friend playing the game on an occasional basis.

The game at its current state has no point yet, no matter what people tell you, it will have a point when it stops being an early access game and they add humans and more things

Thats incorrect. The current point of the game is to test your survival skills.

Definitely give the game a try. Utah is a decent dino to start off with, it’s what I played in the beginning. Dryo is also a very good herbivore to explore the map with, just keep in mind, the second you spawn you’d better make a mad dash to food and water resources, else you’re dead in 15-ish minutes xD

I now have something like 800 hours on this game, well worth the money.

....It's a survival game. As dinosaurs.

You live the life of a dinosaur. If that's too boring for you, then you must not be much of an outside person. If the idea of actually BEING a dinosaur (as opposed to the hundreds of games where you shoot them) interests you, then welcome aboard!

That's very easy to say. Just because there's no quest, doesn't mean there's no point. The point is to grow into an adult and survive as one. Can't be simpler than that.

Then you get the payoff of having the power of a full grown adult, you can try and Survive as long as you can, or you can raise your own young, and try and protect them until they're ready to strike out on your own.

I speak from personal experience when I say, it's really fun and satisfying to raise a baby to adulthood.

I'm guessing you're the type of guy that enjoys themepark games that tell you what to do at all times?

Then you have fun. I know, amazing isn't it? People just enjoying the fact of roleplaying something without a text that tells you where to go next or what to do next.

You can pvp, go to hotspots, you still have to stay alive, you need to hunt more depending on your size, you can pack up, nest, grow youngs, claim territorium and stay there with your pack, you name it.

You can just socialize too.

Whoa, that's incredible. Good to know, I'd like to explore them all eventually.
