Can we stop promoting cannibalism in deinos? why should their diet prefer their own kind, I get it territorial, but all carnivore animals are so if you want that realism all other carnivores should also want to eat themselves.... not to mention they didnt kill their own species for food unless no other food is around, they fought/killed each other for dominance and territorial disputes not just for a snack every now n then. Things might change once other semi-aquatics are added or more AI dinos but the way it is now is just makes people kill other deinos on sight for the nutrients rather than grouping to take down bigger prey.

That plus crocs are kinda cannibalistic... so are fish. I once had a gold fish eat all my guppies 😞

I think deinos being cannibalistic is far less of an issue than how diets work as a whole.

That's not an example of cannibalism. You're not wrong, some fish are cannibalistic but "fish" isn't a species. A guppie and a goldfish are not the same thing any more then a hawk and a pigeon are. Guppies though...many of them are cannibalistic by themselves. Once had a teacher who kept a tank of them as classroom pets. She had a little mini net for whenever they had babys because they would eat the babys if said babys weren't separated from the adults.

The devs have stated that the cannibalism in dienos is to prevent every river from having so many of them that it's not safe to drink from anywhere. Like, not even a gamble, just if you drink you die.

Deino needs cannibalism otherwise it would have no threats. It’s a tough animal to balance, and frankly, pretty bad from a design standpoint. Yes, it makes drinking risky, but the worse thing it does is limit map potential. The devs cannot add small ponds/water sources (think legacy docks) to remote map areas because that would undermine Deino. So now you’re left with having to make deep rivers everywhere and large “dead” map areas. Remember the shallow center river…it got removed because it allowed players to drink without fear of Deino attack.
