How does chat work? Can a player disable it?

Hi, I've seen mention about local vs. global chat. I'm looking to see what all the options are because I don't necessarily want my children to be involved with a group chat or have random messages show up. Can you please let me know how this works and what my options would be if I were to purchase this game? Thanks so much!

It is possible to disable the chat function for yourself.
Servers can also choose to disable it completely or only allow group ("private" chat only for members in a pack/group) and local chat (so that dinosaurs of different species or diets can't communicate and be friends).

Either way, you're worried about the last thing you need to worry about if you're considering buying this for your children.
This game will have extreme gore and even nudity at some point, so I would definitely recommend you don't buy this game for them.

There is no nudity in this game and other than dead dinosaurs and blood there rlly isnt anything bad. if you dont click right shift the chat wont be fully seeable and also right shift is how you chat so if you dont want you kids chatting to random people remind them not to click it! welcome :)

There isn't any right now. There will be (Unless their plans have changed, but even then, my point below still stands: the chat function is the last thing you want to worry about).

the normal of the hcat when u join anys erver its stuck on local till u cahnge it u cant see any chat at all till u switch to global witch every one uses but the chat also help u play by the rules of the server if u dont follow them u will be kicked or banned no real harm in it uc ant post nothign only type but u only see the chat if u switch to global even then u still haev to press enter for to see what ppl type if y akeep it onlocal u wont see nothing

Refer to my post above. Their plans might have changed, but as far as I can remember, it should have nudity later on.
EVEN THEN, however, it's definitely becoming a gritty, realisitic survival horror game, and I don't think anybody would want their kid playing this whether or not it has nudity.

Either way, as a final answer to the OP: play on servers that don't have rules, and disable the chat function from your settings. You do not need to use the chat while playing on them, so you should be fine. (For the full options regarding messages, refer to the first section of my first comment on this thread)

when he says nudity, he doesn't mean there will be tiddies and dongs flying all over the screen. there will not be genetalia in the game. however, there are the tribals. these deformed human esque things, with no room for anything but the smallest of brains in their heads, nonsymetrical mishapen eyes, jagged teeth and a facial cleft that will make you cringe, and (this is where the 'nudity' appears) they don't wear any clothes. they don't have any sort of genetals, but no clothes either. so they are technically nude, but not something you'd find in a dirt magazine. also, this game will end up having some horrifyingly twisted forms of certain dinosaurs, and even people. and for even more info, check out the twitch channel "TheDondi", and look at some development clips. no guarentees you'll find anything though.

Dondi has said in the past that tribals with genitalia will be a thing.
