Sandbox Mode
Why are the sandbox servers so little compared to survival??? For example survival has about 200 players per server but sandbox only holds up to 60 -___-

Part of it could be that the devs want Survival to be there only game mode, so thay don't update sandbox. Also most sandbox servers are a deathmatch on dev test level vs survival being on Thenyaw Island or Isle V3 without the server being overcrowded.

because sandbox is boring and there is no point playing it, I only join them when I want some pvp practice in deathmatch servers

Actually, you are probably referring to Isla Nycta server, and we all know why it is so popular. Some sandbox servers usually have 40-60 players in average. And the dev servers are not far from that, the average is probably 80-90 in the past few months. But yea, sandbox can become boring more easily as there is no challenge in it.

Sandbox I find boring because there's no connection, no real incentive to try because you didn't have to spend 2 hours growing your dinosaur to an adult.

If you die, you just respawn like nothing happened. There's no consequence, you know if you screw up you don't have to pay for it but if you kill that rex, he'll just come straight back in and be non-the-worse for it.
On survival, if you kill that adult-trike you know you've just screwed them out of 2+ hours of the time they dedicated to growing it. It's almost sadistic but if you're on the receiving end, it's kind of thrilling.

I normally play Sandbox for the Deathmatch, or if I want to try out a dinosaur before I waste time in growing it to see if I like it or just to be social. Talk to people if there's anyone on.

Honestly, that's why I /like/ sandbox. You still lose progress when you die, especially if you play with friends because you have to run across the map to get to them again, but it's not as frustrating as dying in some unfair bs way (spawning in on a random adult, the game glitching out and deciding it wants you stuck under the terrain, getting mercilessly trotted down from a mile away and having no hope to outrun) after spending 3+ hours trying to get to adult.

What I don't like is how every sandbox server out there now has global chat and rules (either realism or chill). It's either play on an awful tiny featureless map in deathmatch, or go to a lame realism server where you can't actually play with anyone because no one wants to be the same species as you if you happen to like an unpopular dinosaur.

I even made a thread mentioning I was looking for a no rules sandbox server that's preferably without global chat, but unfortunately there's been nothing so far. I loved the isle back when sandbox was the only mode and global was perma-disabled, every encounter with another player was super unpredictable and there was a thrill to finding someone. Will they be friendly? Will they be hostile? Will they be both and backstab you? You never knew no matter what the species was because there was no chat. It was a total untamed world; a mixed bag whenever you played, and was what kept me coming back.

Survival has that same type of aspect, but with forced rules (on dev) and soon-to-be permanently forced affinity (not to mention having to slog it out as a slow weakling for hours and have the potential to lose it just because someone who's already full decides they want you to die), it just doesn't have the same feeling to it and it's more frustrating than fun to me.

Idk, maybe I'm in the minority but I just really, really miss good non-global sandboxes on actual maps. With global chat on, people just sit around and talk and cluster around one spot. I didn't even mean to type this much, I'm just passionate about a dying gamemode I honestly really miss.

Edit: and I didn't even mention those times the devs like to barge into survival servers with dinosaurs inaccessible to the public and kill people. Things like that really put me off of the game. Sorry, I don't really find it fun to grow something for up to 3+ hours only to have a random quetz swoop down and kill me, or an unkillable hypo to suddenly spawn in without warning and go on a killing spree. That stuff was fine on sandbox (and even cool to see) because it was more lax and there wasn't the crushing feeling of losing all of your work when it happened.
