Baby carrying
Now I know that baby carrying is a mechanic not wanted by the devs, saying it would be "abused" but... beasts of bermuda has this mechanic and I have never EVER seen it abused, and I have many hours on that game. It would be so helpful, because babies are so slow. It just feels unnatural to not be able to carry them, almost every (non insect) land animal does this to some extent. I don't really have much to say about this suggestion, just that it would be extremely helpful.

That does sound pretty cool.

I agree, baby carrying needs to be a thing. Maybe have a way for the baby to self drop if it doesn't want to be carried.

Not really accurate. It's mostly just mammalian carnivores (some omnivores) that do this. Felids, candids, ursids, mustelids, rodents. and only some herbivores in the special cases where they have the anatomy that allows them to do so (most herbivorous mammals are ready to run within a few minutes of being born, so no need).

Anyway, the animals that do carry their young only do so in times of need. They don't carry their babies with them everywhere they go and for a good reason. They're better off being hidden somewhere during the adults' absence.

And as it would be, I have seen plenty of abuse concerning infant carry on Beasts of Bermuda, from both sides of the coin. Generally comes from the fact that other species can pick them up without it being an instant kill.

So you could restrict the mechanic in The Isle to the same species but that doesn't really help when you have an adult of your species who doesn't want to actually help you, just wants to toss you off a mountain.

Though, really you shouldn't be carrying them unless they are hatchlings, and even then a good number of animals wouldn't be able to carry their infants at all. Try to picture a Stegosaurus walking around while lugging a fat baby Stegosaurus in its mouth. It literally cannot.

Though you do have a point about many young dinosaurs being too slow (juvenile Tenontosaurus and juvenile Dryosaurus are slower than a Stegosaurus), that is an issue of balance and can be resolved simply by buffing their speed to be suitable for travelling.

The mama crocodile takes the babies into her mouth for protection. I doubt that’s how it’ll work in The Isle, but not for lack of trying. :steammocking:

Its one of the worse thing you can add to the game, BOB is the biggest cuddling up game there is. The only thing that matters in that game is how many you are, zero skill.
Its not even a thrill to grow up, BOB has so much to learn from the isle balance wise.

I'm also against it in general but maybe it could be an ability for just a specific species in the game. I think that'd be ok. Like a unique way of a herbi to protect its babies

Take it a couple steps further and make the ability to be like quokkas do. The mothers will throw their babies at predators to escape.

I assume the current carry system we have now would have a lot to say about it. I have limited experience carrying things as a utah or carno, past dryo bodies, so I can't get into that as much as I'd like.

That said, I do believe that not being seen/heard is always going to be the best means of keeping your young safe. If it's just travelling and being slowed down, well, when that hatchling grows to juvi, it might be too heavy to carry without slowing the adult down anyways. On foot, a juvi will still slow ya down.

Travelling in cover is always going to be the best idea when travelling with non-full grown group members. You want hostile players who get wise to your group to see and attack you, and not your young, right? :)

1. that's definitely not true lol
2. that has nothing at all to do with baby carrying :steamlaughcry:

Yeah, everyone knows their arms are too tiny for that. What they actually do is fire the baby at the predators face like a fuzzy cannon, to which the baby responds by clawing the predators eyes out. It’s kinda like squeezing a watermelon seed out of your bellybutton at Mach-2. The baby’s fine, really bouncy, but the predator’s lucky to escape with its head.

Kinda off topic, but I can’t wait till they add Procoptodon. :steamhappy:

You know... baby carrying doesn't sound like a bad idea at first. But looking deeper into it, the life of a baby dinosaur is obviously too hard and dangerous to express in a game. So in the game, they have to make a hatchling stage as hard as possible (while it's still fun). I think carrying would make life a bit TOO easy. Like.. a Gallimimus could easily carry its baby away from a Utah. And a hatchling definitely shouldn't be safe from Utahs. IDK. This is just my opinion.

Also, I am not sucking up to the devs. My opinion is not affected by them. But I think they are right with this decision.

When making a nest, it ends up being a group that chats in-game (If it's a PUG or pick-up-group). When groups chat in-game, they make noise. The devs thought it would be cool/immersive if your dino made a noise when you type. Sure, seems cool, but translates into a dead group when an able hostile player hears the chatter lol.

Or, worse yet, 3rd party out of game chatting affords players an advantage they really shouldn't have. A shortsighted move on the devs part, IMO. Unless nothing is out to kill you on your server, but that's another story. Maybe a toggle for player servers to turn that ON, but it should be off on officials, IMO (where player vs player survival is a thing).

That said, and a bit off-topic, I know sry, but I needed context for what I say next. Carrying your young to safety only works if you can outrun your attacker, and not all dinos will be able to do this effectively.

A stego for example. Sure, they could pick up their young in their mouth (the only way possible) and have their tail to defend. But, a head shot is still possible, and that hatchling is gonna die at that point. Unless a hatchling is immune to damage while being carried?

What of the attacker(s)? A smaller faster, and more agile attacker of any kind will likely score a 1 shot kill on your hatchling anyways. Much easier in packs. So, if your young are hidden, it's really the only sure fire way of carrying a hatchling to safety. I think anything older than a hatchling wouldn't be possible too, I agree.

So, in the end, it's more about in-game chatting in the first place, and keeping young hidden lol.
