Not really accurate. It's mostly just mammalian carnivores (some omnivores) that do this. Felids, candids, ursids, mustelids, rodents. and only some herbivores in the special cases where they have the anatomy that allows them to do so (most herbivorous mammals are ready to run within a few minutes of being born, so no need).
Anyway, the animals that do carry their young only do so in times of need. They don't carry their babies with them everywhere they go and for a good reason. They're better off being hidden somewhere during the adults' absence.
And as it would be, I have seen plenty of abuse concerning infant carry on Beasts of Bermuda, from both sides of the coin. Generally comes from the fact that other species can pick them up without it being an instant kill.
So you could restrict the mechanic in The Isle to the same species but that doesn't really help when you have an adult of your species who doesn't want to actually help you, just wants to toss you off a mountain.
Though, really you shouldn't be carrying them unless they are hatchlings, and even then a good number of animals wouldn't be able to carry their infants at all. Try to picture a Stegosaurus walking around while lugging a fat baby Stegosaurus in its mouth. It literally cannot.
Though you do have a point about many young dinosaurs being too slow (juvenile Tenontosaurus and juvenile Dryosaurus are slower than a Stegosaurus), that is an issue of balance and can be resolved simply by buffing their speed to be suitable for travelling.
Its not even a thrill to grow up, BOB has so much to learn from the isle balance wise.
Take it a couple steps further and make the ability to be like quokkas do. The mothers will throw their babies at predators to escape.
That said, I do believe that not being seen/heard is always going to be the best means of keeping your young safe. If it's just travelling and being slowed down, well, when that hatchling grows to juvi, it might be too heavy to carry without slowing the adult down anyways. On foot, a juvi will still slow ya down.
Travelling in cover is always going to be the best idea when travelling with non-full grown group members. You want hostile players who get wise to your group to see and attack you, and not your young, right? :)
2. that has nothing at all to do with baby carrying
Kinda off topic, but I can’t wait till they add Procoptodon.
Or, worse yet, 3rd party out of game chatting affords players an advantage they really shouldn't have. A shortsighted move on the devs part, IMO. Unless nothing is out to kill you on your server, but that's another story. Maybe a toggle for player servers to turn that ON, but it should be off on officials, IMO (where player vs player survival is a thing).
That said, and a bit off-topic, I know sry, but I needed context for what I say next. Carrying your young to safety only works if you can outrun your attacker, and not all dinos will be able to do this effectively.
A stego for example. Sure, they could pick up their young in their mouth (the only way possible) and have their tail to defend. But, a head shot is still possible, and that hatchling is gonna die at that point. Unless a hatchling is immune to damage while being carried?
What of the attacker(s)? A smaller faster, and more agile attacker of any kind will likely score a 1 shot kill on your hatchling anyways. Much easier in packs. So, if your young are hidden, it's really the only sure fire way of carrying a hatchling to safety. I think anything older than a hatchling wouldn't be possible too, I agree.
So, in the end, it's more about in-game chatting in the first place, and keeping young hidden lol.
