feathered dinosaurs in the game ?
Hi everyone
With Hope that will be here soon, I just want to ask some things, just to be sure about some things :

I see that the game will have finally 3 species of feathered dinosaurs only, and it seem that they will be only smalls herbivores species (Hipsilophodon and 2 other ornithopode like dinosaurs). This is true are there will be more feathered species (Therizinosaurus, Gallimimus, ...) or feathered variants of some species like for the T. rex or for the differents species of raptors, this will permit to players to play the dinosaur like they see it, like devs said some times (maybe years) ago ?

That just a question, is just that I don't really know if I will play this game again if there will not have some feathered dinosaurs, I know that the game don't want to be scientifically accurate, but I though that this will be a wasted opportunity to don't have more scientifically dinosaurs than in a Jurassic Park or Jurassic World game, or at least give the player the choice to play the dinosaur with scales or with feathers like he want to play.

That will be cool if they add a "feathers or scaly" option for the dinosaurs in the game, like that everyone would play the dinosaur they want !

That's the plan AFAIK. Been a while since that info came out though.

I really can't understand this mindset in these type of games. " I might not play the game because I don't like how something looks."? I don't know about you, but I play a game for, you know, the gameplay. Not whether something has a specific cosmetic feature. Yes, it would be nice to have some variety, but when did cosmetics become the be-all and end-all on deciding on if a game is worth playing? It is also usually the last thing to be implemented in game development since it has no impact on the actual game play. And even if the devs decide that they hate the idea of feathered dinos for some reason, it is guaranteed that someone will mod it in the day the dev-kit is released.

For me, try to have more scientically dinosaurs is a guarantee of quality, games and movies soiled the pictures of the dinosaurs, usually because of Jurassic Park saga (especially Jurassic World) and that will be good if games could give to people who don't know very much about dinosaurs a more correct view of them, or in the best case, give the possibility to the player to choose between the old vintage look like they are actually in the game and a more correct look with all we discovered, and of course feathers for the dinosaurs which need them (raptors, therizinosaurs, ornithomimosaurs, even maybe tyrannosaurids and why not more).
And if it's just for the gameplay, there now a lot of others The Isle-like games which have almost the same gameplay, it's just that I follow The Isle since the beginning, I was even in the small close alpha before the game arrived on Steam, with the Austroraptor, the Gallimimus, the T. rex and the Gallimimus with feathers, that will be cool if I could revive the hype I had almost 5 years ago with that beautiful dinosaurs !

How is them being scientifically accurate a sign of quality?

Anyway, nothing wrong with the JP dinos. They admit they are not true dinos and were engineered monsters, as are those in The Isle. For all intents and purposes, these dinos ARE correct.

It is for me, we just don't have the same criteria of quality, if for you is to have scaly lizard like dinosaurs like they are of course you could find me stupid, but for me I just want to have the same good dinosaurs we had to the beginning of the game, the dinosaurs we have actually are for me less correct that the ones we had before

The thing that would be cool would be to have the possibility to choose between the 2 versions for each dinosaurs, of course that would be a lot of work I know, but everyone would find what they are look for in the game

It isn't a matter of opinion though, quality can be measured.

For quality you look at bugs, crashes, redundant code, glitches...whether Dondi wants 100% scientifically correct dinos says nothing about the quality.

You measure the quality by testing it. There's a reason you don't enter a bug titled "These dinos don't have feathers". That's a design decision, not a bug or sign of poor quality.

That it for me, that all

you mean you just don't like how it looks. scales or feathers isn't a sign of quality, so you're just using the wrong wording.

i don't blame you to be honest. i know its meant to be scientifically accurate, but feathers on Utahs just feel off for somebody who grew up with JP. feathers on Tyrannos has actually been straight-up disproven for now, so currently our current Tyranno looks rather realistic [its stats, on the other hand, are anything but]

the news we're getting varients came out forever and a half ago, and its highly unlikely it holds up now. we're probably only going to get feathers on certain dinosaurs, such as Theri, or Galli if it gets a remodel.
Nearchus Dec 28, 2019 @ 3:41pm
Feathers will probably be optional in the end-game(at least for some dinos)personally I think feathers make dinos look too friendly and soft. Maybe some feathers are OK(like theri's) but they are not my cup o' tea. But, you know, feathers probably will work their way in the game later.
Professeur Zeta Jan 9, 2020 @ 1:42pm
It seem that Beipiaosaurus will be the second feathered dino, I hope that the new model of Austroraptor will be the third feathered dinosaur of the game, that we can have at least one specie of feathered raptor ...
RexNatura Jan 11, 2020 @ 8:40am
Theri is getting a remodel, and will have individual feather assets put onto it- a la Saurian ornithomimids. Beipiao, I can't confirm, and the devs have spoken about austro in a way that makes me think it's not getting anything new.
