Why was there a recode?
Just a simple question but why was there a recode, does anyone one know y the devs decided to remake the game entirely

im not entirely sure but im pretty sure they wanted to make the isle and not a tail bite simulator or something like that, they wanted to make it How they Actually envisioned it to be which is a realistic expirience or somen like that

To work with a new code that would allow the devs to update the game without always breaking something and having to double back in order to fix it.

yea, basically what happened was the older isle was kind of a giant mess of "spaghetti" when it came down to code, so as to not completely screw everything up whenever trying to change something in the game Dondi was like "Lets just rebuild everything!" and reworking everything from the ground up was actually pretty smart since apparently now they will be able to do things that they couldn't before hand. So the recode was kind of inevitable since hey had already planned for new maps, systems and foliage anyway:steamhappy::steamhappy:.
or at least that's what i got from following Ravenous on youtube for the last year...

what I heard was, the main guy ( coder) left and made a new game ( Path of titans), with what he visioned the game to be, rest of the devs here, tried to "remake" the game to catch up.

Every time a patch comes out it breaks something new in just about every game, though. How bad the issues were could have been the reason. I think they just hired a better coder, and It would take that "better coder" too much time to try and fix the mess of the first code. I agree here, it's sometimes faster just to start over lol. No one "really" knows what happened there, so I'll just go with this. In the end, they decided it was better to start over, and that's what we got.

Not even close. TheBluSpy covered it accurately.

Nope, thats partly correct, the main guy is not with them anymore, he has another game going " Path of titans", google about it and you will find out

To make a long story short: their old lead programmer left and since code is harder to read than to write (even for the person who wrote it when going back, but more so for someone who did not write it), they had issues updating and patching the game without breaking something else.

They eventually came to the conclusion it is too time consuming making their ideas and vision of the game work if they keep trying to figure the existing code out, so first they wanted to fix it and once they were deep down the rabbit hole, they decided it is better to write it all over again.

I think they wanted more features to what they previously were limited to in coding, so they switched to an Unreal Server Host.

Yeah but you forgot the part where he left a big pile of spaghetti code trash for them to fix behind him so they had to rewrite all the code.

As far as I know, the old code did not prevent them from pushing updates as long as the old programmer (and co-founder) was still there. One way or the other, it helped getting The Isle started and build the player base and financing it has now.

If the old programmer was that bad, one could ask why they kept him around for so long, which in every company would be accounted to the manager (or in this case director), who failed to identify and correct the bad performance.
And that the person is used as a scapegoat once he's gone also says a lot about the professionalism of the manager (or in this case director).

One way or the other, the very one-sided information in this regard does not paint a very good picture for The Isle's team and I hoped they'd take a bit more ownership, or at least handle this as neutral as possible. For me it just seems to convenient of an excuse, and does not really add up either if you follow the whole thought process of their arguments through.

I think it just as I said; code is way harder to read than to write, especially if you didn't write it and the one who did is no longer around to ask.

i agree with you, i think they're just using the old programmer as a scapegoat and calling the code 'broken'. I feel bad for the developer they're doing this too, because it's smearing his reputation and any future game he's working on with the isle's rather mob-like fan base believing what the developers are saying and attacking him and his new game

Fortunately his new game, which I have the demo of, seems to be working pretty well so far. He and his team are not engaging in the dirt fight.
They even go as far as that, if someone is attacking The Isle or the devs of The Isle on their Discord, they immediately step in and give a warning.

I think he at least is over it and just wants to work on his game.
Very open and transparent with the community too, even though I did hear that he changed to the better past The Isle and wasn't always like that.

So you are telling me that you think that they just went on to rework the entirety of the game, bringing the game's development to a standstill for a year and a half, pissing off many players and likely losing money in the process too when they could have just gone on and kept working on the current version of the game and they did all this just for absolutely no reason other than to give a former developer a bad reputation.
Nice thinking you got there bud but you forgot the tinfoil hat.
