If the rex hits first, it will disable your stomp by applying the break leg effect. This leaves a trike both limping, and only able to attack with regular attacks. They do damage, and good bleed yes, but it won't be enough, and a rex can simply face tank you, or munch your face till you're dead.
However, if you land the stomp during the first attack (even if you take a hit also), you can best a rex who presses the fight and face tanks/face munches you. That stomp will ensure that your next regular attacks will be enough to finish a rex, and let you rest up that damage. You won't walk away from any apex fight without resting something off lol.
The rex will try to fake you out, and make you miss your stomp, so they can hit you and cripple your stomp. A giga can do this better, but can't disble your stomp, so they need to do these over and over, where as a rex only needs to land the first hit without taking a stomp.
The first exchange is everything. Or, if it's 2 rex against 1 trike, the first rex can take the stomp, and the second will still be enough to finish you. Know your trike, you'll be fine. :)
Play ARK? They went with an idea very much like yours. The front is armored, and the sides and back take normal damage. The trike also has a charge, which makes perfect sense! The isle stomp as people call it (which isn't accurate) makes zero sense lol. A bronto stomping, sure, cuz it is so enormous, but not a trike. It's just not that big, and if they were stomping, it would be to step on a utah juvi or something lol.
In the isle's defence, the STOMP is probably a horn attack, but everyone pays attention to the stomp part and sound. What they need to do in order to fix their current trike stomp is to make the trike move forward a bit during the motion, so it looks less like a stomp, and more like the horned attack it is.
Like when a ram attacks, it rears up and lounges forward a bit and down at an angle coming down on the target with it's horns. You'd still have the front end coming down and making a sound like it does. That got that part right.
