Finding prey is basically never an issue cause of how abundant AI is. Also I, personally, am not a fan of bigger and heavier chaarcters in this game. Just not my style, prefer the more compact bois like dilo and cerato.
At sub and juvi rex survival is similar to other smaller dinos.
It's hard to bump into other players... sadly
What makes solo apex so bad is that one unfortunate circumstance, like a group shows up and you have to hide, means your likely to starve and have all of your time wasted. It really is terrible. A smart pack is going to kite you and bleed you from the back so you aren't a 1 man wrecking machine in the sense it becomes easy.
Juvi rex is the worse. I can take a fresh dilo and with like 2 hits chill and watch a ava bleed out which allows me to feed safely where a trex will have to chase that bad boy for ages attracting everything in the area to come and kill it. Things which by the way are in the area as AI doesn't spawn when you are alone. Apex are KOS to just about everyone so you won't find any mercy.
If you want to be a solo rex play a carno instead and if you get good enough to avoid being hit back there isn't really anything you can't best.
I've seen success with everything in this game as a solo player so I'd say so.
Seriously though, my experience with TRex has been fun but frustrating as pointed out in previous posts above. Lay low, stay out of trouble, become adult, get killed by another pack of Apexes. Didn’t feel like it needed to be repeated, I’m good
If we ran out, we usually hunted whatever else there was unless it friendly called (sometimes one would be aggro and we just kill that).
Weird alliance between a giga, a dilo, and a juvy rex that stuck lol, even tho the dilo could have slaughtered us at any point.
Anyways my point still stands, find a nice secluded lake (twins is suicide) where you can live in relative peace, can hide if needed, and live off of AI. Gulf lake is really nice imo since you can hide easily at night. Once you become sub you can look for a pack and leave or just stay until adulthood, keeping out of the open because apexes do come through sometimes (2 of them got my cera)
It's a hard life but at least as sub rex you have more of a chance than a giga sub.
