Three of those would "blend in at night" and the other three are Oreos and quite frankly, fall under my umbrella of edgy.
Guess how well all of them fared? Hm? Well. 40+ suffered the same fate as them using their general color schemes. And that's just me, some sleep deprived dude. Imagine how many other players have killed? Big yikes.
Now, as for this myth of blending in night...
I've caught things of those colors at night as well, plenty infact, and they actually stand out. A lot. The eerie green of NV, that is *very ♥♥♥♥♥♥ pale*? Yeah well, if you are dark... you stand out incredibly. Your just a blotch of black that stands out even more than if you were bright. Bright things can hide in NV.
You are aware that one cannot see anything past your NV range, at night, yes? Just to be sure. Because if NV wasn't mandatory to function without using exploits like Reshade, or if the nights were bright like V3 used to have, dark colors would offer a benefit. But they don't, because night is just straight up black. It's not dark.
It doesn't matter what color something is at night. Matter of fact, any dark, more or less uniform shade of color will provide equal camouflage at night, that being, terrible camo.
You could be red. Or brown. Or green. Or gray. Or black. Or any mix of these, if gradual. And you will be just as camouflaged, at night.
If you are in NV range of something, you are, except in the case of Dilo, right up in their ♥♥♥♥, and guess what? They'll see you, regardless of your coloration. Because funnily enough night vision ingame basically snuffs out color. So it doesn't actually matter.
You could be a bright yellow lil ♥♥♥♥, and nothing would see you if you arent in their NV range. And walking over the bright green lil ♥♥♥♥, you might not actually see it in NV... a black dino, well that ♥♥♥♥ is dead.
Picking brown, or green, or hell even gray, is an infinitely more advantageous choice than black. At night. In daytime. In plains. On mountains. In forests. Near rivers.
Tell me, why are so few Albino or Melanistic animals found in the wild, but so many in captivity?
Spoiler, they suffer the exact same fate as my absolutely ridiculous amount of PKs.
They get eaten without an artificial safe environment to protect them.
And what's quite interesting is Dondi has specifically mentioned not wanting to let people go all black or all white. Crazy right? He didn't want people doing this to themselves, wanted to stop them from being self-compromizing. But instead of me offering the, "hey yeah, maybe you people should stop doing this to yourselves" I get flak from people claiming I'm trying to force them to play a given way. A bit of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
You are a T-rex in all of these, your nightvision and power is unrivaled.. Try looking/hunting for them as something weaker, then maybe you can speak.
Just let people play the way they want, no one cares about realism
Let's see here.
-Trex ingame has ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ night vision, even if the IRL animal had potent NV.
-And I'm a subadult, a dinosaur that is killed by Allosaurus or Carnotaurus, so sure, muh unrivaled powah!
See here's the thing: they are all juveniles. So no matter what adult I would be in that situation, they are all equally dead. Why? Because they were seen.
The thing is, it's not about realism. It's about a tactical disadvantage people put themselves at. At no point did I bring any reference to realism, just cold, hard, ingame facts. It's a logical argument.
Fact, black does not help you at night
Fact, black and white, or just black, stands out like a sore thumb
Fact, brown, green, grey offer better camouflage than oreos
Fact, juveniles ingame are helpless if spotted by an adult who is even mildly motivated to kill them - so regardless of my choice of Dino, be it Dilo, Utah, Allo, Cera, Sucho, Rex, they'd be dead.
What I do take issue is people claiming these colors offer an advantage. That's disconnected from reality. It's misleading.
People can shoot themselves in the foot by picking colors like that, I'm not saying people can't do that, and they don't need my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ permission. I'm not their mom, nor do I claim to be. Go ahead, if you feel I am encroaching on your freedoms as a massochist and tryhard, be my guest and pick black and white coloration.
I'd rather at least let them realise "Hey buddy, you have a loaded 12 gauge aimed at your foot, are you sure about this?" because I at least then have a clear conscience. At least then IK someone simply isn't picking their 'cool' colors only to get screwed over 5-6 times in a row because they don't realise that being those colors is detrimental, and then they hate the game. The Isle has a tendency to burn people out, and I'm offering people some pretty darn good advice. If you are any of the 40 players who ended up in my pre-pubescent Tyrannosaurus' dinner plate, you should heed my advice. You'll have better odds staying alive... if you aren't giving yourself a handicap.
Again, no one cares. And your point only really stands because you, apparently, go out of your way to PK players for kicks. You are literally making the game less fun for others by what you DO than what you tell others to do. This is a SURVIVAL game, not battle royal.
"You can't tell people what to do"
" You need to stop PKing because that's WRONG"
You have yet to bring any actual arguments against any single point I have raised, instead nitpicking or going after my character. That's an obvious sign you either haven't been taught in school to debate, in which case my condolences for whatever garbage education system you experienced, or you've lost the debate.
Saying "nobody cares" over and over again does not further your argument. Criticizing my playstyle doesn't either. Claiming I'm trying to force people to play in a given way and refusing to acknowledge how that's not the case at all does not advance your position. Attacking my character does not make your argument better.
It's an official server, where I racked my bodycount. Trust me, but I'm not doing anything spectacular. I'm sure 50%, at minimum, of official server players would do the same in my position of opportunity.
Now, I'm pretty sure people would care if their goal is to reach adulthood. I stopped 40+ people from doing that, and IK Ulf's comment was a joke but it actually has a grain of truth to it. To try and get those players to realise that they must be doing something wrong. If they die over and over again by picking unatural colors, they'll eventually pick something else and make it to adulthood without someone like me coming along and kicking them back to spawn beaches.
If I see someone going around as an oreo, I'm not going to just live and let live. I've spared natural colore'd dinosaurs, if I'm not hungry / wasn't raising any juvi Rexes. As Kyre mentioned, you don't want me pushing how I think they should "play" (when all I'm suggesting is they put more thought into their skins if they want to reach adulthood relably) and yet you think me having killed so many people was griefing and I should turn a new leaf, change my wicked ways.
Got news pal. I've said it numerous times, people can screw themselves IF they are aware of the risks they are taking for all I care. Nobody smocks cigs without knowing the risks, the labels are pretty upfront in most countries about the cancer risks. So if you smoke, you can't say they didn't warn you. Given a lot of players doing this aren't experienced, I feel it wise to give them a heads up.
But I ain't changing how I play. The game scarcely lacks things to do if you take PKing out of the picture.
I think there are way more important things to discuss such as terrible ping on all eu servers etc. and pointing out problem that devs clearly knows about (Dondi saying on stream that black is going to be overused and so they need to do something with it) is pointless.
People not gonna listen, and in this moment you seem to just not like that, and so tell everyone to stop.
People who can play this game will choose whatever dark / bright color and still play well, people without skill simply don't have skill, that's all.
Your wonderful 40+ kill count that you mention on left and right can be put into any other case, you could kill as many any other day without skin system, just this time the bad colors were added, and you put blame on them.
Why you may ask? Because I'm just that type of person. Gameplay over visuals is my preference for my possessed dinosaur in a video game about trying not to die. I won't blame someone if they prefer a certain color choice; even if said color choice is white and black and doesn't really help with gameplay much. Everyone has their own preference, and I can't change that.
That said, I'm sure most people just want to look cool while playing the game. I don't blame them what-so-ever. Especially if you're playing a dinosaur like the carnotaurus where stealth only matters once under every blue moon. Or even a rex, where once you're adult basically everybody is aware of you when you're nearby. It all comes down to how you prefer to play and what the developers allow you to choose.
I'll admit that I have black and white skins saved and they are some of my more favoured skins. I've tried to make some nice camo skins and just don't like them nearly as much. In some cases, like myself, if you don't like how your character looks you just don't feel like playing it at all. I'm pretty sure that everyone knows (unless it's a young child) that camo increases chances to survive, but are rolling with what they like instead. I know that your intentions are good, but you seem to have set the mood by trying to tell them and others that they have no common sense and should be ashamed for going with a colour they like.
I have to admit that arguing over people's skin choices does seem pointless and a little petty. It doesn't affect your gameplay much (why would anyone complain about food being easier to get as a carnivore?) and I'm sure they have the braincells to know that camo makes them blend better.
camo is too good. if i was black-brown-white or any other colour i would of died straight up
i would recommend rocky/earthy colours for rex if you are good at staying very still and waiting cause you can certainly be very hidden even for such a big dude
Thing is for one the skin customization in its current state doesn't give you the whole story of how your dino is going to look like. Chances are you pick a bad camo unintentionally. Other than that the whole point of knowingly picking edgy colors or color combinations IS to stand out. I understand you're saying its not a wise thing to do and its not. And I'm frankly also kind of sick of all the Oreos running around. But people do what they do just let them. Dying over and over is the price they're probably going to pay for it and its gonna teach them eventually.
It's not exactly like the color pallets given are exactly varied. They're good for camo, sure, but a lot of them are super similar shades and the way they're applied on the dinosaur can look strange on some skins.
Everyone was excited for the skin system so every dinosaur wouldn't be the same shade of dirt brown anymore so I don't really know what was expected? God forbid people want to have a skin that they like. I'll keep running around with my snow leopard utah and blue poison dart frog dilo unless those colors get ripped from my hands, because the only thing I've died to with them were speedhackers.
Edit: I'd also like to point out that I honestly get more nervous sizing up someone with a brightly colored, high contrast, clashing skin vs someone with a dull camo skin. Clearly they must be doing something right if they're able to live to adult for who knows how long while sticking out like a sore thumb, and I feel like other people have looked at me the same way.
