How to host a temporary server?

The instructions for server setup are kind of garbage, there's info on setting up a dedicated server but nothing about setting up a temp server. I have the necessary ports open, private set to off, etc. but my friend doesn't see the server on the list. I'm in the latest dev branch if that helps at all.

I was hoping to host a no rules sandbox because they pretty much don't exist anymore.

A temporary server is just what you have whenever you click "host" in the game. Most of the same steps apply if you want other players to be able to join: you have to open the same ports, etc. etc. Also, the configuration file is found via the AppData folder (don't recall the exact location off the top of my head, but it's not hard to figure out from there). Player info is saved across sessions, so you can shut down and restart as often as you like and keep your dinosaur's growth, map location, and such.

That tells me literally nothing. :/

I know what a temporary server is and I know how to "host" one via the host button. The issue is, I host said temp server and it doesn't show up in the server list. All of the ports are open to my knowledge. Server isn't private. I'm not doing anything wrong but no one can join it, so it doesn't work.

It's been weeks and still no actual answer to this... just rehashing what I already know.

go to the how to section of the forms if you need to know how to host a proper server. sargon described to you have to host what is considered to be a temporary sever.

lol... All the how-to info is about dedicated servers, and even then all it says is how to open ports. I literally said this in my first post:

I'm not new to opening ports, I've hosted servers on plenty of other games before that require it. When I try to host on the isle at all, I'm the only one who can join, my friends can't see it appear in the server list, and I have no proper way of testing whether or not it actually shows up.

So once again, that doesn't answer anything. I swear it's like people who have answered this so far just regurgitate info I state in my very first post.

You’re obviously doing something wrong. We’ve told you all the steps. I redid the whole process myself just to make sure I didn’t miss something while explaining.

I've redone the process three separate times and it still doesn't work and I have no actual way to test it or figure out what's wrong. I don't exactly think getting frustrated after almost a month of not being able to get it to work + not getting help with it is unreasonable.
