Spinosaurus Survival Idea
So as it seems with the design choice behind Dilophosaurus, i;e a dinosaur with generally inferior stats but due to having amazing night vision and very high lethality it becomes a terror after sundown, I thought to myself that certain dinosaurs should be like this; reclusive when the environment is not in their favor, terrifying when it is. The idea of an animal suddenly being dangerous when its environment advantages it is something I find so appealing, so naturally I love many of the Riddick movies; and I love the Mud Demons the most out of all the alien fauna. When the monsoon arrives they become apex predators, but in their absense are confined to being ambush predators.

And then I thought of Spinosaurus in the Isle. I'd be damn shocked if it wasn't added to Survival, but considering all things it would be a rather strange dinosaur gameplay wise; probably not all that fast; even tho it is the 'land' spino. Hardly as powerful as T.rex, not a speedy bleedster like Giga or a stealthy kingpin beast like Deinosuchus. So it wouldn't be inherently strong, fast or even aquatic when it comes to its niche.

Well, what if as Spinosaurus' unique ability, when it is 'wet' it would not drain stamina? That would include when swimming, allowing them to swim indefinetly, but also when immerging from water, as for a time it would be 'wet' (having that lubed-up effect) and of course during storms.

Obviously, that is incredibly powerful as an ability (with a fun little co-op that happens with Neuro spinos... given they call the rains 0-0 ) so to balance that out (spamming of ambush, sprint etc)
1) Spinosaurus would have a very, very small stamina pool, so when it is not wet... it would be a sitting duck.
2) Be given horrible turn radius when running; that huge surface area of its flank would make turning mid-sprint challenging at best.
3) While keeping a higher weight stat than the other apex dinosaurs (still less than current), it would have a lower health pool than its weight; any damage it receives would matter all the more, but it wouldn't be a pushover either.
4) Wouldn't deal as much bleed as it does now in Progression.
5) While it would stay a tough opponent that can give a T.rex a fair match, it would be slower than it is now.

Thoughts?

sorry but anything that messes with speed/stamina values the way you descirbe it is an outright horrible idea! nothing is worse that just getting run down with no chance to escape which is the main reason why the game is in such an unplayable state at the moment

You mean Diablo having insane stamina and speed?

read the development patch notes. this was said to have been fixed. Seriously though. No disrespect but this kind of thing has always been detrimental.

They fixed the stamina regen lol, it still has an insane pool. It was only nerfed in damage and bleed, buffed in hp and weight and bleed heal.

how about spino taking longer to lose stamina while in the water.

Because that wouldn't help it out of the water? And it would leave it as inferior to Deinosuchus... the thing that makes spino stand out is it is mobile on land but can function well in water.

it's not just the diablo, there are countless examples why the speed-, stamina-, trot-,stamina recovery-values (cuz all of those are damn important) are bananas... look at cerato, para, giga, rex, trike... the list goes on

Sorry but this is for land spino right?
So we all should know the devs planned to make 2 spino variants: land and water.
Ok here are my ideas:
Aquatic - It will behave like a crocodile pretty much. Anyways this one has its niche and is easy to find its place in the ecosystem.

Land - (FYI our current spino is the land variant) This is what baffled me. It has no niche. Its currently the worst apex. All it has is its hp pool which is bad in comparison to rex damage and giga just out runs it so currently its the worst apex.
So instead having broken and abusable stamina it should instead have short growth times in comparison to rex and giga. Its stats will still be as bad as it currently is. Maybe some balancing to move it to survival but generally plays the exact same role.

Water spino was confirmed scrapped a short time back.

A dino's niche shouldn't come from their stats, especially by being a cheap-apex, but whatever; it seems everyone here agrees that stamina not draining when wet would be quite overpowered.

don't really see the need for 2 spinos as well especially since 1 spino can easily fulfill both roles - semi land- and semi aquatic-apex
in my opinion aquatic creatures shouldn't be as strong and/or fast as their pure land-counterparts in general simply because they can always rely on eating fish and avoid confrontations on land completely

Gigas will never be able to rival Rexes when it comes to brute force (which is fine since they got speed on their side) i suggest turning the Spino into the dino that can rival the Rex and have an even fight with them. Spinos should be slower than them on land though otherwise playing a Rex would be pretty pointless

Deinosuchus which will spend 90% of its life in the water is another topic that needs to be considered when balancing the Spino. Deino should at least have the power of a Rex for the same reasons as mentioned above

Deino should be stronger than any other playable carnivore, but being pretty much confined to water is what holds it back.

Spino should outright lose to Deino but that doesn't matter since if a Deino is around a Spino can just gtfo and escape. But I agree Spino should be able to throw down with a T.rex and have good enough odds, while being slower than it on land.
