Died of Hunger, then died of thirst.
Carnivores? Heard them. Sure as hell didn't live long enough to see them. For a new player experience this games learning curve is a slow, slow, slow death. I know what to look for, but damn if I can ever find what I need when I need it.

Here's some tips: when you find water, stick to it, look around, see that mountain over there in the distance? Try to remember that. When you see that mountain, you're going to think 'hey, I remember that, I was near the lake when I saw that last time'. As for food, I don't really have a strategy for when you're starting out as herbivores, I usually play on servers where you need like 2-3 points to progress to the next dinosaur, so I don't even have to move at all... I suggest you keep trying, even if you're sure you'll die, try to make the most of it.

Getting more of the hang of things. As a starting Herbi I just stock up on flowers when I can, but only eat enough for what I need. Water seems to drain slower. I'm mainly looking out for the longnecks.

they need to increase the amount of plant food for lower tier dinos, and add atleast a couple little ponds here and there doesnt have to be a massive lake.

didnt think weather was in the game yet. Talladega
would be awesome if rain could replenish water even just a little.

The amount of food or water isn't the issue. The tools to find them other than "be experienced at this game and know where to go" are. Or the lack thereof.

There is a scent prototype (on footprints, but it doesn't really matter what it gets attached to) but it impacts performance and I don't really know how far development progressed on that.

Other than that I can only say "play Velociraptor" again. Starter herbivores were essentially designed to spawn close to their required resources and sneak their way to progression. Only that the first part is no longer true and the second part is much less interesting than it was a while back.

If you are a new player, you are going to die a lot. But from each death you will learn from your misstakes, and learn the map layout more and more to give you a much bigger chance of survival.

It's like you can play a herbivore, and it's much easier, even more so when you go down the Ceratopsian line, just spend X amount of time in a bush as a taco, progress to Ava and not even Utahs mess with you, unless they wanna die.

It's not the predators that are a problem, it's the douchebag herbivores killing other herbivores for the sake of being a douchebag.

what the server i play velos are killing each other for food and no one goes after herbies at all

How do you hunt something that can literally afk it's way to top tier? Progression plants might have been way too common but at least they made herbivores actually do something for their progress.

Bingo.

I always hated the progression plants, but I never would have imagined the herbivores would be even more laid back in prog post- progression plants. Pre-progression plants being a herbivore was fun all the way to the top, it took quite some time and was terrifying. There was no such thing as a safe location, because any of the reclusive areas would end up with experienced predators going there to track down prey in hiding. Now, with nesting equating to free tickets to things like Allo, Utah, Rex, Carno etc, herbivores tend to afk prog and serve themselves up as steak, and small carnivores like Dilo or the overabundant austro tend to be better meals than herbivores.
Thus, they can sit back and chill.

As to the suggestions, just spawn as Velo without any intent to survive, over and over. Every spawn has water near it, the trick is picking the right direction. So, spawn in, look for some sort of landmark, and do so with singleminded purpose of getting the feel of the map.

Best way to find water, on populated servers, is simply to listen to the cacaphony of creatures that have made it to the top. Ironically, as a herbivore, you are much safer going to chill with Carnivores, should they have a carcass / be nesting, than with herbivores. Stay away from shants and camaras whenever possible; shants being the humongous duck bills and camaras the fast as hell longnecks, aka shant 2.0 when it comes to joykilling. If you are an oro, dryo or whatnot, just find a group of large carnivores; you pose no threat to any of their babies and bc you are so small they couldn't even eat you. They also tend to be near water, so if a predator shows up that is near your size, go for a swim and they will give up. Just make sure to not annoy the large predators, be quiet and subtle, and they often will allow you to be around.

Safest place to be on Region 2? The waterfall at SL, hands down. Often it is a mosh pit that is like the cold war; no one will attack because everyone would tear eachother to shreds.
