The Isle

Can someone explain the point of nesting please?
I've been trying to figure this one out for a couple of hours now after reading that certain dinos that can only be played in sandbox mode can be "nested in". From what I can tell by reading the wiki / googling, it seems like there really isn't any benefit to it other than providing a way for friends to spawn together instead of spawning all over the map, is this true, or is there more to it than that?

You spawn in with a family group. So, if you've been solo for awhile, being nested in usually means you're now grouped with other players. It's more of a social thing.

Based on your response this isn't a friends inviting friends mechanic necessarily, but anyone can opt to join a nesting group?

Aside from the dinos which are not currently playable in survival unless you are nested in by a Patreon user; yes, that is exactly what nesting provides. You have the added safety of starting with other players who can fend for you, but at the slight cost of additional growth time.

Certain species got really tough life as juvies if you play alone, nesting helps you to survive.
After gettting invite to nest , you getting adults which provide protection, food adn you spawn in reasonable place where there is good hideout and source of water ( unless someone nests in really stupid place ). It's basicaly easy mode and you can relax and go AFK quite a lot. Sure it takes more time to leave hatchling state but it's worth it.

Hmm... which would those be so I can avoid the frustration?

To be frank, the juvie stage of both factions (herbivore & carnivore) *can* be tough, but some species like juvie trike are utterly defenseless. If growing solo; do not call, do not use group chat, stay concealed until you need to drink / eat, consider sniffing for gore instead of chasing after that AI. Or, you can find a group of adults willing to adopt you.

TBH, I'm really not sure why anyone would use calls unless they get caught out by someone they didn't manage to hide from. I grew and allo and a dilo today to adult and the only two calls I used were a 2 call when a juvi trike found me resting, and another 2 call in the general direction of two medium carnivores (no clue if they even heard it because I was far enough away that I couldn't even tell what they were beyond bi-pedal). It seems to me like calls are mostly just a liability since it seems pretty much anyone who isn't someone you're playing with is going to try to eat you, even if you friendly call.

It all depends on the server. In realism servers like Nycta, for example, players have to rely quite heavily on all calls due to server rules regarding corpse ownership, fighting / fleeing, aggressiveness etc...

If the other dino doesn't return the 2 call, then you should probably leave ASAP.

Calls in real wildlife usage is for territorial ownership, courtship, matings, display aggressiness towards unwelcome visitors/fighting for meal and calling for members of own species.

Calls certainly are not for ambushing a prey.

Most of the Herbivours nest should be located at few nesting site while carnivours are free to nest anywhere.

Certain herbivours food should only concentrate in certain areas such as trike/dryo in grassland, para/shant in wetlands, cama/maia in dense tree formation, Pachy/dibble rocky mountains. Then introduce weather season dry/wet base on Africa senggreti wild life.
