Hot Spots & Spawn Points
People on the forums here keep saying that players only go to certain spots? Like what I haven't really noticed people congregating in certain areas.

Also also say spawn points are camped. Which parts of the map are considered spawn points? Other than the beach I wouldn't know what was a spawn point & what wasn't so how would I make sure I wasn't attacking someone that just logged in?

They are probably talking about the V3 map.

Spawnpoints that are beeing camped are the beach areas, because it is easy to spot a juvie there.

Ppl tend to gather at twins (the two lakes that are near echother) and the two docks (the human structures on the beach)

I've played the V3 map. Maybe just hadn't noticed anyone congregating when I was on...but then I haven't really been to the human structures (other than aviary & that only once)

Ok so spawn points are only at beaches? Then so long as I don't attack players on a beach I don't have to worry about inadvertently attacking someone just spawned in.

Several spawn points. There's four on the beach. One east of murky. One in between murky and secret. One close to docks. Another by northernmost. One by western pond. The last I can think of is by the big pond at hot springs.

Hot zones are wherever preds are guranteed to find players. Twins. Radio tower (utah specifically). Docks. Hidden lake/trike mountain. Herbi (Giga) Valley. Murky again. Great Falls (the real herbi valley). Titan-sorta. West river. Swamps are hit and miss. Rivers by sink hole are decent.

Oh wow...not sure if I know all those spawn points...will have to refer to printed map I have. Is there a way to tell if someone has just spawned in vs passing through the area?

unless you literally see them spawn in, no. they could spawn in a second before you get within distance to see them and it would be impossible to gauge if they were a fresh spawn or not.

spots people go to are exclusively twins, titan, cargo and docks. you will be very lucky if you meet anybody anywhere else. this isn't a player problem, don't get me wrong, the devs just seem to make amazing maps but consistently are really, really bad at spreading out spawn points.

thenyaw? V3 is bigger. people are more spread out on Thenyaw because they're kinda forced to, the spawns are too spread out and map is too small for too many people to congregate. sure, they try, and there is always a density of people at PP [party plain] but the number is miniscule compared to what twins boasts 24/7.

having played a giga more then a rex lately and thus traveling more, to be honest, it is more that players might be just simply more noticable when drinking and will need to drink

Besides that, i found that any lake of pond can be crowded at times and be void of life at times

some of my bussiest moments were actually in the area of herbi hill as a rex

also things depend on server activity...that moment when the servers are close to filling up from 70 percent to 100 percent a lot of juvi's seem to spawn in, so gulf pond, twin lakes and murky become quite crowded then.

if how ever the player count is dropping, most of the players online seem to consist out of mainly adults and thus those are found pretty much anywhere.

Thanks :D

May I ask opinions as to which map you guys favor and why? Is one better to play on than the other if just starting out...always getting lost and having a hard time finding places?

I do v3 because it's familiar. Would try thenyaw if I wasn't comfy in my server so much.

I'm fairly adept at traversing both maps. Thenyaw is smaller and as such has shorter distances to travel in order to reach the farthest edges of the map, while V3 has slightly longer travel hours when you're not a dilo due to its brighter nights, and plenty to discover. Having a good sense of direction will help when it's raining, but finding water through scent and hitting "Insert" to bring up the coordinates will tell you which pond/lake you're at, if you can't tell from the shape, size, and/or number of ponds/lakes.

And speaking of those coordinates...I wish that THAT and compass direction were always displayed (say small and in the bottom corner) instead of the latter being tied to scent which doesn't work int he rain...and coordinates (being on the character stats screen) don't come up in sandbox :(

You'll get a hang of it in time. Just keep focusing on developing the sense you need for the game and you'll be golden.

Adds suspense. Like getting lost on a dark, stormy night.

True...at least to a small extent I will. I've even continued to get lost in games i've played for years by mistakenly going the wrong direction. You have to admit though tit'd be helpful to always be able to see your coordinates and the direction you are currently facing.
