Walking Backwards?
I'm sure somebody has mentioned this, I've probably just missed it. The only explanation I've heard that makes sense is that Dinosaurs wouldn't have been able to walk backwards because of the fact that Emu's cant (or that nobody has ever gotten footage of Emu's walking backwards). However, Ostriches can... So that doesn't really serve as concrete evidence imo. I also don't see why/how it would be detrimental, if that's part of the argument.

First off I'm confused as to if you are for walking backwards or against it. But saying that dinosaurs couldn't walk backwards is like saying birds can't walk backwards. It depends on what dinosaur it is. There are many factors that would influence the ability to walk backwards like center of gravity, balance, and pelvis type. It seems to me, bird hipped dinosaurs (Triceratops, Stegosaurus, the like) could walk backwards. Modern crocodilians can walk backwards as long as they are in whats known as a "high walk". The hip structures between the distant relatives are kind of similar... Lizard hipped dinosaurs might have a harder time going backwards because their weight is situated on two legs instead of four. Rex would not be able to walk backwards, neither would Giga. Raptors might have been able to, but probably wouldn't find the need anyways. Nevertheless, what does walking backwards do for us that alt turning can't? I think the part where it becomes detrimental is where people will just keep backing up while spamming right click. That's about as fun as getting butt-ridden.

Not exactly.

If you're a dinosaur who mainly deals damage from the front, then walking backwards could help you more safely disengage from a confrontation. I guess it seems that the big apexes can't do that though so it's probably going to be a herb mechanic if it's added in.

i think overall the movement of this game is quite 2 dimensional, i also think we should have a mode in which to walk backwards and sidewards

either way, devs might not like it, but yea, to really make this game near perfect there are a lot of mechanics that need rethinking/be implemented

Well, as for what walking backwards would bring to gameplay, it would make positioning for eating/drinking much easier, it would make combat/movement in general more interesting, and since so many servers have alt-turn disabled it would fix the issue of being ass-bitten once and for all.

The issue of being ass bitten on servers without alt turn will be fixed when the devs take away the option to turn off alt turn.

Are they planning on doing that?

They’ve talked about it repeatedly, so yeah, unless they’ve come up with a new solution they haven’t mentioned yet.

Ah ok, well that would definitely fix that issue of course. However I do still feel the addition of walking backwards would benefit gameplay in terms of movement.

Actually walking backwards would address the issue of ass riding by smaller dino's, particularly if the larger dino can walk backwards faster, also this would look better than alt turn by appearing more natural, could also open up some other strategies in combat

Pretty much my thoughts.

Granted, the apex bipeds should do this slower. But anything quadriped should have no issue.

Should also be multidirectional, such as moving sideways and diagonal from wherever you're facing.
