killing yourself multiple times could be abused to make each spawn point a mountain of reliable food, would remove any challenge for carnivores.
Bingo.

To add to that, the server lag would mirror that of Sandbox servers due to the amount of bodies, even if there was a cooldown timer for the suicide command.

Still not sure why everyone is assuming an additional respawn button = suicide?

The respawn button on sandbox servers doesn't drop a body, it just removes you from the world like the logout button. I don't see an issue with adding that on prog and survival with a fair 5-10 min cooldown tacked on after each use to prevent it from being spammed.

Honestly, if anything, it would PREVENT the influx of bodies. It's easy enough to just repeatedly walk off of cliffs if you REALLY want to respawn. I do it all the time on survival and near any steep drop, you can typically see 5+ rex/carno/utah bodies from previous suicides. And even if it didn't prevent the unnecessary body count, it'd still be useful for getting out of a bugged spot if you get stuck.

If you could just kill yourself it would be too easy. That's why its not there.
what a close-minded thing to say. If you refuse to put an option to kill yourself in the game then you NEED to ensure that the environment you've designed doesn't trap you in such situations or that there is another method for escape. ANY OTHER WAY you approach this problem falls back to poor game design as the root of the problem. Don't force players to artificially inflate their game hours by waiting to die in a hole that you've created through neglect.
When someone asks a question like OP has and you respond like this it makes you and your game look very bad indeed.
It doesn't matter how rare of an experience something like this is. If someone interested in purchasing your game (myself for instance) comes to these forums and sees a post like this with a response like yours it makes them far less likely to buy your product. Who the hell would want to buy a dinosaur game where you wait in a hole to die?
Guess what, In real life dinos fell in holes too and couldnt get out. Had to starve to death. You didnt see them doing /suicide to escape thier fate

As an alternative, what if the suicide button simply didn't leave a body behind?

It was a quick and simple comment cause he has better things to do, like fix the game. Which map was the hole on? If it's region 2,they know it's a bad map, but it's also a temporary map, until V3 is finished. I remember when suicide was an option, it did help us escape the original region 2's many holes in the map, but it also lead to serious, serious server lag, that made the game absolutely unplayable. They have better reasons to not put it back in, than they do to re add it. Someone died in a hole, most likely on a map that is getting pitched in an EA game. Add in a broken mechanic that completely ruins Gameplay, or wait for the new map that doesn't have any holes or known problems?

Dinosaurs also died from diseases as well. If your dino, that you worked for hours and hours to get died not due to a lack of skill or another people but because of bad luck? Would that be a good feature? No because it's a video game.Just because it's realistic doesn't mean it should be in the game.
