Damage from Falling
Disclaimer: It is entirely possible I am wrong as I do not have access to the actual code and how it works but this is something I've gathered from experience playing this game.

I have broken my legs many times in this game as anything; big or small. I have noticed that the height it takes to break your leg does not do much damage to your dinosaur at all, but falling slightly further as most creatures will simply kill you.

If this is actually the way it works, I would suggest that the fall damage you get is more 'equal'(?) to how far you fall so you can properly kill yourself from fall damage without falling the full height of an instant-kill.

I think many of us have had that moment that we try to kill ourselves and break your leg instead of dying and the damage you get from the fall is barely anything substantial that would require tens of falls from the same height to actually kill you.

I could see the reasoning behind making it this way if this is how it is designed to work and my observations are correct, but I would like to hear other people's opinions on it? It's something small and pretty insignificant but I believe it is worth pointing out.

I totally agree. I often try to kill myself because of a bad spawn, and I simply break a leg! I also agree with the other reasons.

This actually sounds like a good idea. Right now the damage you take is not due to the fall but dur to broken leg, which took away a little percent of you max health, meaning that if a rex or Trike broke your legs, it will deal additional damage just the same as broken leg from fall do. Scaling fall damage from the height would require an entirely new type of damage, but it shouldn't be too hard.

I'm sure it wouldn't be very difficult to add. Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like it would take a simple equation for the game to solve using percentages to calculate the amount of damage a fall at any given height should give you, and then taking that amount away from the player's health variable.
I like this idea. I think it could also be beneficial for long term survival because after a couple of falls, you'll really get an idea of how far you can take and how damaging they are to you before running into the sudden fall instakill I think we've all experienced and raged at.

Maybe that's why dying from falling seems so galling at first - because there is no medium - 'I just lost 60% of my health! Falling hurts' - you either have a broken leg but are generally unscathed or you're killed instantly with no recourse.

Slightly offtopic, but once I jumped down the waterfall at cannonballs. My Austro died the moment he touched the water of the lake. Instakill. From jumping into the water. That´s harsh if you ask me ^^

The solution to that problem would be to not jump into the water.

Seriously though, try belly flopping into a pool of water, its pretty painful.
Now increase your own weight and increase the distance of the drop to 20 or so meters. That wont just be painful, it could also cause a lot of damage

A large fall is bad, doesn't matter if its hard land that you hit onto from a fall.

Never thought of it this way, but yes, that would be very beneficial and actually give people an idea of how far they can actually fall before falling and dying.
