Are they a thing that happens often. I just spend a lot of time as an Austro, growing and getting pp just to have the server go down and set me back to when I first proggressed. Swear I can't catch a break.

Join the servers steam group or discord, they will announce when they restart the server so u can safe log and dont have to repeat the progress again.

Yep... this does happen rather frequently if you don't safelog.

Your PP will be saved to the last time you logged out, or the last time you took damage.

Best to join their discord group because they should/would have frequent msgs saying whats happening about the server - ours just got nesting disabled and fresh wipe

The reason behind it is that the server quality deteriorates over time. The solution is to periodically restart the server so that lag, rubberbanding and other such problems don't make it unplayable. This does two things to the unprepared: It costs them PP, and it takes away food. The latter isn't your actual hunger stat, that is saved as your PP is, either with your last log out or your last injury. But it does cause corpses to disappear, so carnivores will have to hunt after a server restart in order to secure a meal. This is also why players seem especially bloodthirsty after a server restart. The food they had before it is gone.
