If you are on a server that prohibits KOS, it is your responsibility to know what the ADMINS define as KOS. It is your responsibility to know that it could be a bunch of little kid admins, that the admins may not be quality-picked by the server owner, that you may end up KOSing them or one of their friends and said person is salty and the admin, being biased towards them, will exert their will.
KOSing is naturally a term that is dubious. KOS= Kill on sight. It is not just a term native to this game community, it is a normal term in the english language. So you cannot redefine it. You thought KOS meant killing for no reason, and many associate that to be the meaning. Others think it designates a playerbase of trolls who ruin others progression experiences, such as "KOSers" who always play with the dinosaur that is the most exploitable. Some think KOS is killing for fun and not for a logical reason; not in self-defence, to hunt, protect babies, guard a water/foodsource and so forth. Some think that KOS is any form of killing.
So it is easy to see where these issues may come from. The plurality of definitions of the term. It is, in a sense, like how Judges work in a democratic system. They look at the constitution and interpret its meaning up to their discretion. They cannot change what is written, but they represent the constitution so whatever is written in regards to the law they can interpret as they see fit for their duty. Kinda like the whole KOS situation in this game's community; "Thou shalt not KOS" can be a server rule, however the admins interpret as they will.
However you do need to realise this. You take the risk of playing on a private server with specific rules, you are responsible for anything that goes wrong. Even if indeed you are innocent regarding why you got banned, you chose to go on that server. You can easily just find another server, find one that suits what you need.
I find it odd how people are playing a game with dinosaurs that is planned to have mutant monstrosities, natives that put the Iroquois to shame and brutally enslave dinosaurs as a passtime, giant echolocating cannibalistic Usain Bolts, US marines...
And they are against the idea of killing. Even in Sandbox (non-realism), even in Progression with costs so low it is basically easymode simulator. They are against the idea of killing, yet the general public associates dinosaurs with killing like people associate Bill Cobsy with terrible crimes, Kennedy with assassination, Morgan Freeman with that old wise guy in movies, Arnold with oneliners that never grow old.
Am I the only one who finds this absolutely incredulous?
Like, don't get me wrong, dinosaurs obviously were not mindless things with the sole intent to kill. But most people think of them like that. And we have a game where you can play as them. Accessible to the general public. With options that make death INCONSEQUENTIAL. And people make many servers where they say "nu KOS it is not gud".
Everyone interprets its differently.
Ive heard so many people complain about walking up to a water source where clearly there are bodies and larger preds around only to die for coming to get a drink, then start throwing out the whole "Oh you are KOS, You had food I just wanted water!" My question is why would you even think about going to that water knowing that something is there that could kill you? Your first reaction should be to turn around and find a new lake, one less populated with said "Koser" If not you are walking into your own death and shouldnt make a fuss when you die.
