Another uneducated Euro complain about regional pricing.
I love how you Euros get so mad about the prices of entertainment, but when it comes to atrocious VAT and insane self destructive politics that are the real reason you are so angry at entertainment you are absent.
I guess it depends on how jaded you are... Myself, I'm very idealistically minded, and an unrepentant optimist to boot. That being said, I am aware of exactly why poverty stricken countries recieve a discount.
While it would be nice to think that these Publishers are "giving poverty stricken people a break" it's more likely that unless they discount their games, then they are going to miss out on a significant amount of sales, which translates as a huge hit to profits than if they had discounted the game.
VAT is not the issue.
So people in the US pay $60 in their local currency and Aussies pay $100 in our local currency. Ubisoft screws us again.
And they wonder why Aussies are the biggest software pirates.... IT'S BECAUSE OF THIS CRAP UBISOFT! IT'S BECAUSE OF THIS!!
I wouldn't touch the subject of Australian game pricing with a 12 foot collapsible pole.
Instead, I direct you to this article that goes into the full grizzly details.
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2010/11/why-do-videogames-cost-so-much/
I AM asking what is the VAT amount total. If it applies after or before the $80 price. That would not hurt to clarify some questions I am sure people will have.
Ubisoft is not ripping the EU off, its ripping everyone off equally.
It is shown in the price, however this is not the reason for the price hike as the game is expensive compared to the vast majority of other games in the UK market. There seem to be a move over here where some publishers are trying to push up “normal” top end price of digitally distributed PC games by 25%. At the moment there are only two steam games priced at £50 but there is also a flurry of pre-order tittles in the bracket. Best thing people over here can do it not pay this price. Most of the £50 titles still have normally priced boxed versions. In the case of the Witcher 3 the boxed version was available for £32 while the steam version was £50.
Anyway, one US dollar is equal to 1.36 AUD, so, at $60 US the price minus VAT is 81.36. Add in VAT at 10% and the price is 89.50, so it does sound like the same price with VAT added.
For the EURO, the deal sucks. The exchange is 1 to .92. So they should be paying $55 USD. With VAT, it is $66 USD.
The worst is the UK, the British pound is worth way more than the dollar. 38.45 GBP is what they should pay! With 20% VAT added that is 46.15!. I would consider it robbery at 60 GBP. At 80 GBP, that is 124.82 USD! Pay me like 70 USD and ill send you a copy. Unless that was $80USD or 51.27 GBP?
Best Comment here. Well done.
Who cares, the price is higher than a huge majority of games, there is no reason for it!
Well, actually: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/2274/question_of_the_week_responses_.php?print=1
