Is it better than Anno 2070?
I want to make this very clear, I'm on the fence on buying this game. What I want to know is how does this game compare to anno 2070. After you put 20-30 hours into this game, after hitting the point where all that's left is to just increase your population or do achievements, do you guys think you would want to continue playing this or go back to 2070.

From what i can tell after watching a couple hours of a let's play, and reading reviews. This seems to be far more casual and easier then anno 2070. From what I can tell you build 3 cities, temperate region, Antarctic, and lunar. And you get to choose from 3 types of maps for each type of region, that's 9 maps in total.

Am i missing something? or is map variety really a massive downgrade from 2070?

also, it seems as if goods don't really have a physical presence in the game, it seems like they are moved around instantly. You do need to make a trade route to move stuff from one region to another, but the goods transportation system seems to be severely dumbed down in this game. Not to mention it seems like resources are basicly all infinite, which again just makes it seem like anno 2070 but on extreme easy mode.

you seem to only command one ship when you're in a city region. And its just to interact with npcs for quests. There doesn't seem to be any inventory system for ships, which I guess means no craftable items.

There are some nice improvements like being able to move buildings, and the graphics, but it doesnt seem to really be better then 2070

correct me if any of this seems wrong, but from what i can in nearly every category, things have been either removed or dumbed down in comparison to 2070.

I started playing 2070 leading up to the release of 2205. I have been playing it with the 2170 arrc mod. for those of you who don't know it adds a bunch of new buildings, the ability to build houses on the water, higher ship cap, more military ships. It just generally makes the game a lot better. At this point I'm not sure if I should buy this game or just continue playing 2070 with the mod.

You're pretty much spot on, and based on what you've said I definitely recommend sticking with 2070. I'm actually really enjoying 2205 at the moment, but there's no denying how simplified it is. The biggest worry though is replayability, I've a long way to go yet..but I just can't see why I would play it over again.

No way i'd go back to all the restrictions and bad random maps of 2070.

If you like good games you'll like Anno 2205.

If you hate change you'll hate Anno 2205.

Anno 2205 is significantly less tedious than previous anno games, but the core gameplay of effecient logistics and building is still there.

Did you even read the OP? Clearly the new map design isn't going to have him jumping for joy now is it? It's actually a far more restrictive system than older Anno's.

its not easier, people just play on easiest setting (which gives bonuses now) and play until they reach the moon, the harder chains come later, just like in anno 2070.

I do miss scenarios and colonizing all the islands because of different fertility, but on the other hand i love the new inbuild calculator and the reduced need to have special city designs for service radius.

This game feels very different from 2070 and the other annos, almost like a offspin, i think you can play both.
Im not sure how long this one will last yet, there arent any scenarios to beat, which added a lot of gametime to the other annoy for me.

lol when 2070 was released these people were saying 1404 was the best.

The cycle never changes.

i would say 2070 is better in terms of end game content, for example you can build 2 monuments (three with deep ocean expansion) and really try to manage all of them at the same time. In 2205 you just get a... monument with overpriced expansion wings thats instantly built. I really hoped they bring the megastructure building aspect back but no. But im still having fun in 2205, and thats all i needed, but I wish there were more though.

I can only speak from my point of view ... i really disliked anno 2070 because it just didnt feel like a anno for me anymore

and now started with 2205 with the expectations that it will be the same ... but up till now i enjoy the game .. but dont expect a anno game ... if it would be called something else you would believe it too ^^ - doesnt feel like anno in any way .. but its a really nice strategy game where you can make a cool economy

The graphics are sure a big plus, but let's be real. Name me one game franchise, whose games went graphically downwards as they progressed. So this is no big surprise to me.

But what was surprising that after ~ 100 hours of play (1.500.000 inhabitants so i can tell you whats goin gon) my desire to start another game was 0.

I don't want to rage a lot so if you speak german, here is the best review of the game so far , very objective: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mD5lZGswygw

all in all : best looking anno, biggest cities, but the best ? (they leave the question open to the viewer and give you hints why it's certainly not the best)

I find Anno 2205 a well made and beautiful game. But after only 33 hours of play, and I did start over once cause I made a mistake on the first try, I have now completed the main game, and only have side quest left. I have way over 100 hours on anno 2070 and still not got to the endgame of that one.

In Anno 2205 I felt like I got my corperation to a healty size, and was about ready to take on the "enemy" just to find out there was no storyline after making the corperation.
I feel like I bought only half a game. And if the DLC's only is new maps I will be very disapointed.

But do you like city building and layout, there are hours of fun.
One thing I realy don't like though, is that the game seems to run on the same stupid idea as many politicians seems to follow.
Just build some empty houses, and people with no jobs move in and pays you a lot.

I personally preferred Anno 2070 over 2205.
DadouXIII Nov 9, 2015 @ 1:57pm
I'd say no just because of the lack of content. Anno 2070 had several DLC and 1 expansion to complete it, so we'll see what happens with Anno 2205 when its DLC drops.
