how do you get it

either levelling up your cities to get the resource bonus = needs more population - or - doing those side missions with the ships eventually it unlocks magnetite as a resource you can pickup. you also need to expand onto the moon first as well

There's 3 ways to get Magnetite

*Do the optional missions available on the moon
*Do the Crisis sector mission
*build a Moon Magnetite Project

If you land on the Rare Materials crater, there's a special Marvel quest to get Magnetite generators, which you can collect from by clicking on them every once in a while

Otherwise do the Medium difficulty Arctic Crisis and stick around to mop up everything

And the quests can always work in a pinch if you don't want to engage in either
