Game Ending Catastrophe.

It was 90% bad timing. But this just happened to me.

I had just done some major building projects and, as usual, went on a Mission to pass the time while the Funds pile up.

But then out of the blue a Catastrophe strikes. It turns my good balance into debt and drains the few funds I had left in a minute, starting the Bankruptcy timer.
I rush to finish the mission I was in and go to the affected sector to assess the problem.
Had to make a quick buck to invest in the things that would avert the Catastrophe. But the Market man wouldn't trade with me. I go to another sector see if that other guy would trade with me. He doesn't. If it wasn't for me postponing accessing the Stock Market for that free IPO million bucks, It'd have been a game over due to bankruptcy.

What caused this disaster?

I din't have enough trees in my sector.

This is just bad game design. A game over because the player didn't put down enough ORNAMENTS?

"enough ORNAMENTS" is the objective of that disaster, not its cause. They happen (and will continue to happen) randomly. You can turn them off if you don`t like them. Or keep some credits and other resources in reserve.

So I would have gotten it regardless of how many trees I put down?
And since I put down the required number, I'll have to put down more or it'll happen again?

I loaded the backup before opening the Stock Market and managed to solve it by completing a quest that paid the money I needed then proceeding to put down a line of trees before the quest money ran out.

Well, Ornaments cary the prerrogative they're for aesthetics. I ignored them completely until I couldn't. They shouldn't potentially end your game if you don't put them down.
If I wasn't barred from selling excess goods, I wouldn't be complaining.

Also, does the game activelly waits for you to go on a mission to start invasions and catastrophes?
