its better than any trackmania to date.. the hate comes from fanboys that played the previous trackmanias for years and got sooo incredibly used to them that they can't have anything else/new

AND

especially if the slightest smallest thing is missing in one they will bash it to death ;)

i agree with the criticism that turbo is much more streamlined and therefore is missing some functions from the previous games, BUT overall its the best trackmania they made in my personal opinion. i absolutely love the game, especially because its a complete package (i absolutely hated the fragmentation in tm2. worst idea ever from nadeo -.-)

besides being more streamlined and therefore missing some advanced functions ingame like better leaderboards (which is easily possible to add with a patch and furthermore the leaderboards are online on a specific website for the game) theres nothing wrong with the game. the environments are amazing and the new assets are superb, especially the visual ones. the cars' handling is great and even valley offroad, lagoon beach and wood are perfectly controlable if you learn it. it just takes time for stuff like lagoon beach and wood and i'm not a pro myself but i'm starting to get there..

the customization ingame is great because you have more then enough stuff to customize the cars to a great extend (though ofc i agree that its streamlined as well) and i also like the soundtrack (excluding some tracks but you can enable and disable all tracks in the menue so that disabled tracks will never be played)

just give it a shot, its really worth at least trying out !! i heard on uplay theres a demo/free trial for the game.. at least try that before listening to those naysayers.

Ive always wanted to get TM2 but I didn't like how it was split into 4 different games... this seems pretty good but the issue is how easy is it to play other people's games?

also... Steam showing only 300 people are playing right now...

The problem with Trackmania² in Steam is that for more or less silly reasons, the games are split into 3 (or 4, when lagoon will be released) because they are seen as separate games and not just as DLC for Maniaplanet as they could also be seen.

If you purchase the games in Steam, always make sure that you always use the same (one and only) Maniaplanet account after the setup, to register all the keys properly to that one single account.

And then you can uninstall the games from Steam, download and install the standalone client from the Maniaplanet player page (https://player.maniaplanet.com) and play on all titles without need to quit Maniaplanet. Plus they have added the special title Trackmania², which allows to have servers with maps from the different titles one after the other in random order.
Then and only then it feels like Maniaplanet has all 3 titles in one game :)

It doesn't take a fanboy to have an issue with the developer overtly and unapologetically saying that this game - in a series whose popularity was built entirely on the PC - was developed for console first, and console limitations will be carried over into the PC version - because, and this is straight from the developer, it's "EASIER".

It doesn't take a fanboy to have an issue with the developer deciding to eliminate support for player-hosted servers, which the developer admits means multiplayer will simply cease to function at some unknown, non-guaranteed point in the future (especially when coupled with Ubi's history of taking popular franchises and annualizing them, and their history of shutting down servers for games shortly after the next version - which of course sells at full price - is released). I don't pay full price for game rentals.

It doesn't take a fanboy to have an issue with invasive, useless additional DRM like uplay.

But hey, mOnzun, if it makes you feel better about yourself to think that anyone with a differing opinion is clearly just a misguided "fanboy", please, continue to do so - I wouldn't want to further contribute to whatever social and/or mental issues require you to insult anyone whose opinion differs from yours. Have a nice day, and please, do feel better! :)

Look, if you like this game for what it is, that's good for you! Insulting people who have valid concerns about this software just openly displays your level of maturity, however.

Again people like this nit pick at the game's flaws and not at the pluses. Hence you forgot the idea for the game was built for consoles (if you would of watched dev logs you would know this).

Game is built arcade like, if you where a 90s and 80s gamer you would know what arcade means. Hope that wasn't too much for ya, since I'm assuming that you have a social or mental issue because my opinion is more reasonable than yours.

Plus to mention that this game is a "Spin off" of TrackMania 2 or cubed. They wanted to do something outside of the usual game box that they do for every game. They say lets do something fun and different!! IT IS NOT A SEQUEL TO TRACKMANIA 2 OR CUBED.

But to be clear on what an arcade game is I will tell you. An arcade game is a game that has no true goal, mostly to get high score or the most points. Arcade gaming has evovled since then allowing players to play to an ending thus earning more money than an average game would so players can say they have accomplished something another player has not done with X amount of dollars. Bragging rights so to speak. Also arcade games are at....um....the arcade, also known as a place with a bunch of games. For example Pinball Machines, Ski Ball, Shooting Galleries,(later years) Fighting Games, Shooter Games, Racing Games ect.

Now with this arcade mindset and as mentioned above that this is a console game, we should understand that this was not a PC game from the get go. But they built it for PC too so that people without a console and have a PC get a chance to enjoy a different challenge for TrackMania fans. I think you should just be glad they thought of the PC players and their fans. Which I can't say for some other games (Doom 4 I'm looking at you).

As for the Uplay program I don't see a problem with it. It's an extra step to get to the game, but it gives players something Steam can't do, which is Ubisoft's little points you get when you play their games and getting achivements only from the Uplay program. Any points you have collected from all games you have played with Uplay you can spend those points on some nice content instead of buying DLC for it. Sure steam is already there you really don't need Uplay for this game, but it is easy for them to keep track of what users are playing, how long users are playing and other data they collect when using their own program. Plus Ubisoft doesn't own any rights of steam itself so there for how will they get the game onto consoles and still use their data collection tool? Steam isn't universal till it is okayed by Valve, the guys that own Steam program. This program is only for PC, like it or not, unless it is a Valve game which has the steam overlay built in. In addition building a PC only version of this game would take up more time and money. When they are almost finished with the console version of the game and have Uplay ready to go it was cost effective and easier(no duh) than simpley putting this game to the side for another 6-12 months for a PC release wouldn't be a well invested for their money for this game, since I'm guessing they have spent a lot on this game already. Also they have pushed the date back several times for this game and fans where getting impatient to play the game.

In all common sense Uplay is the answer to give all players on all platforms the same content. If you hate Uplay then wait for lagoon to come out on TrackMania 2 or cubed. Plus multiplayer isn't all that and a bag of chips, it shouldn't be the main reason for a game like TrackMania Turbo, even though it has been a big aspect of the game. Leaderboards are such a huge thing for TrackMania. Again gives those bragging rights to people that are better than other players, I get that. Not having this feature on custom maps I see would be a big let down for some heavy multiplayer fans. But in my opinion this is a ARCADE game. Meaning it will be having more local and party like features because that is what arcades had before the internet exploded into what it is today. Now the Multiplayer feature is there in console format because this particular game was ment to play with your friends that lived close to you or around your village, area, appartment or whatever you wan't to call it. Global feature is there so you can play against people all around the world. Does global gaming servers work 100% all of the time? The answer is no. Disconnects will be somewhat common or rare and so will some weird lag spikes.

I only see a few issues with the game but, only thing I see is that it has the core gameplay of TrackMania and that hasn't changed. Handling takes more percision than the other games and using power sliding on all corners isn't what gets you the gold. You get all 4 enviroments with some new features like Double Drive, Random Generated Levels(for infinte play) and some cool random game modes. I haven't had this hard of a challenge in the previous games so to say this is the hardest game of TrackMania I have played. You are not just fighting the course and all of the bends but you also having to understand how to take the corners at crazy speeds. Blind jumps, crazy hairpins and maintaining speeds through engine shut off traps and reverse speed boosts make this game insanely hard and fun. Another great thing about this game is you don't have to run the tracks twice. It submits the best times to the global leaderboard without having to run the track twice. Solo leaderboards also only count how many medals you have not how fast you ran the track compared to the standard times. I sometimes wish it was the other way around back to the SP boards but hey you can't have everything.

Track creator is still there too if you want to build your own tracks and race them with your friends. I don't know the full content of the track creator because I haven't used it yet because I'm still on the solo game.

Game is great if you have an X-box or Logitech controller, unless you are a keyboard player, still pick it up. It is a cool challenge for people who like TrackMania and all the wacky courses that come with it.

With games like this you should check with a Postive reviews and a Negitive reviews. I check several of them to make sure I'm getting as much info on the product as I can. Then check out some players that broadcast the game (like me). Ask questions about the game to other users that already own it and play it to see if it is something you would like to play. Plus you have the 14 day or 2 hour play limit on the game so if you are not satisfied with the game in the first hour and 30 minutes than turn the game in for a refund.

Thats all I have to say about TrackMania Turbo, It is fun as hell and frustrating at the same time. Kinda like how old Nintendo and Super Nintendo games where back in the old days. No game is perfect but enjoy the content that is there.

Just another side note that this game is still TrackMania. The core gameplay is still there. Different features? Yes. Different take on the music and other elements of the game? Yes. Deciding to dump the whole game's core gameplay mechanics and turn it into a gaint pile of crap? No.(looking at you Doom 4).

I don't like the words "fan boy". Seems too harsh. Maybe hardcore fan would be more suitable. I am a hardcore gamer but I'm not the biggest fan of the game series. I do like the games and own them, but I won't start hating the whole thing just because it got a diffrent treatment that hasn't changed too much about the game. But if your core gameplay is there but minus some features on a "Spin off" game I'd say you got the idea of what it is and if it is your flavor than enjoy it. If it isn't don't go spamming your opinion on every forum that is available to get your point across.

I too understand the frustration because I've been a victim of multiple games that have destroyed itself by pulling some of the same crap this game has done but far worse. Causing a franchise that I have enjoyed and raming it into the dirt.

Just remember the developers haven't abandoned the game franchise, they are just spreading the love right now.

I have honestly typed too much. Just check it out for yourself and don't worry too much about some crazy opinions.
