How do I play with a friend?

Why on earth is that so hard?

I have him added on Steam and The club. And we're stuck for 20 minutes and can't figure out how to play together.

What the ♥♥♥♥ is this UI.

Actually it is very simple.
Start Turbo, select ONLINE RACING ("MULTIPLAYER" is only local multiplayer play on the same PC!), then go to the ROOM BROWSER.
Now either you select one of the available rooms. Select it, join it.
If the room is empty, it might take some time to start it. Once you're in the game, press the ESC key and there select INVITE FRIENDS and select your friend in the now visible Uplay menu.

Or you create a new one. Select "MY ROOMS" on the upper tab, then on the bottm "CREATE ROOM".
If you want to play alone with your friend, you can make the room private with a password.
On the top, select "EDIT TRACKLIST" to add some of your own tracks, or tracks from your friends, or simply tracks of the official campaign.
Once you have added one ore more tracks, go back, and then SAVE&QUIT.
Now you can join your room, it will be started on the server.
Once the first map is shown, you can invite your friend as already written above:
press the ESC key, select INVITE FRIENDS, add your friend from the Uplay friends list, and wait for him to join your room.
