Can the thorns damage from the reckoning 3-piece set crit? I am using the talent that turns thorns into lightning damage. Does the thorns on hit scale with lightning damage? Also does it work with overpower?
I haven't really explored too much of the game yet (only 200+ hours), but from my experience thorn builds can easily clear Anomaly 10 - 12. Mind you, I still haven't finished those builds completely and there's still room for improvement, so I'd assume clearing Anomalies 15 wouldn't be too hard if you had enough runes and could upgrade your gear to golden. My best thorn build so far is ~400k HP Berserker with like 22 million thorns (still unfinished), and despite that, I can clear Anomaly 12 easily, though it takes a little time because I lack the damage to clear it as fast as I want.
I had the same experience with companion builds, where, unfinished, I still could clear 10 - 12 rather easily, then spiked up to clearing 15 easily and then tried 15+9 (the endless Anomaly or whatever) and this is where I'm literally one step of finishing my build (still need only one Anomalous rune to drop before I can move further).
And I consider that being able to clear the high end Anomalies is good. So far the only class I could not figure out how to clear Anomaly 10 easily is Warlock - I can still clear the Anomalies, but with tactic maneuvers and takes way too long (tried few different setups, but that is probably on me).
This is just my opinion, not a fact or anything. Different people have different priorities and goals.
Normal Thorns (including Thorns in a nova from Shrank's shield procced on hit with the Reckoning Set/Molten Veins on Berserker) can crit but don't need Overpower as they're indirect damage.
Base Thorns element is physical (flat thorns * physical % * thorns %), if you change them to a different element just change the physical % with said element in the calculations of your total Thorns amount.
There are also things that base their damage on your Thorns amount which are direct hits themselves (Barbed Spores from Warden / Chain Lightning from Templar) that can crit but also need Overpower.
If this feels a bit complicated... well it is. Chronicon discord is a good place to ask about specifics, there's usually some1 there to answer.
Because of power creep and some design decisions we usually base builds' power level around endless T400 (as some builds can't or can barely clear T400 while other builds can deal with content that has several thousand times more health than T400 enemies... Game isn't exactly balanced for the highest of endgame).
Realistically any synergistic build should be easily capable of doing Mythic 15.
Edit: Not trying to be condescending but some opinions about the game can change drastically when you get more experience with it. At the beginning I also couldn't understand how people are even killing things past Mythic 15.
