Confused about passives that applies a DoT
I'll use Templar's vengeance tree as the example.

Its 2 passives Sharp Steel and Phantom Shield both deal damage when they proc, first one applies a DoT while the second one shoots a shield. Phantom Shield clearly says that the attack that triggers it will decide the damage but Sharp Steel does not.

How does the game decide from what damage Sharp Steel is applied?
Is it from the triggering skill as well? - If so, when I use a weaker skill and trigger the effect, will the DoT be replaced and do less damage or will the timer refresh?

Sharp Steel (and all similar effects) are based on the damage dealt, by whatever skill you used, multiplied by the listed percentage. So if you hit for 100 and Sharp Steel bleeds for 60%, you'll apply a bleed dot for 60 damage per second. Same for all on-hit passives unless it says otherwise!

When using a weaker skill it'll just refresh the duration - it only overwrites the damage if you hit harder!

I tested that today with 2 different skills and it actually lowered the damage rather than just refreshing the duration, when using the standard attack replacer, bug? I find it really hard to read the numbers on lets say Warlock with curses but on my templar it went from 14 to 10 bleed.

Also, thanks for the reply! You're really quick to answer people on here
