Eventually, all my builds seem to boil down to picking 1-2 active skills, 2-3 permanent buffs, and an ultimate buff, and then I try to make sure I invest everything else in passives, because anything else is useless.
In principle, I'd also agree with the idea that slot limits can encourage diversity. In practice, however, such a low limit encourages a bland sameness in actual play.
Personally, I'd add 2 slots for a total of 8. They could be restricted to permanent buffs if necessary, but that would at least grant some breathing room.
I guess that could always be an additional limitation, though I can only think of one build I've tried which uses more than 2 auras at a time, and it wasn't important in that case.
The entire skill trees are designed with 6 slots in mind.. so it's more to it than just adding two slots. I can say right now that I don't really like the idea of more slots. I'd rather add complementing mechanics instead.
They'd still have the passive effect, but their cooldown ability wouldn't be available. A build which wanted that ability would have to put the aura in one of the 6 regular slots.
