Just move Mitsuhide Akechi to the center of the battlefield and Mitsunobu Isshiki straight where his army is facing.
Now while Mitsunobu engages some enemy units, Mitsuhide can go to the center without being engaged by the enemy, there you go.
If it's not working move Mitsuhide a little bit to the south (if you're using 'north-facing' camera)
So during the battle i just moved Akechi's unit as far to the right towards the mountain as i could but slightly northward, and then he moves past the centre unit to the right and once Akechi clears that closest unit to him, the rest of the event then triggers for me.
When i do it, he technically doesnt engage, he just gets shot at a few times, Ive tried it a few different times doing it different ways and the only one that works consistantly for me is as soon as the event battle begins, i select Mitsuhide and set his target all the way to the right and slighty up so its end is set to the southern tip to the huge mountain on the right.
Mitsuhide will move that way behind his other unit, the 2 enemy units, Kuroda and Hidanaga(i think) both close in on your other unit but as your unit passes, a fwe shots get fired and then when i get half way to the destination i selected, the next part triggers.
Then i immediately choose ALL my other units and bring them all over to where Mitsuhide is and wipe out Kuroda and his friend, then i spread them all out slighty in between Mitsuhide and all the enemies and kill each unit as they come with all mine while slowly moving up the right side letting all my other units eat the damage and saving as many troops of Mitsuhide that i can for when the big event finale triggers and you finally have a decent shot at taking out Hideyoshi's 13k stack
What you need to do is hope that a merchant comes to see you sell some food and buy items you need at least 2 one for the Tsutsui and the other for the Hosokawa, gift them so they can become friendly and use Mitsuhide and priest Tenkie to get their trust to 40, note if you see that effect goes down a point for example if Tsutsui has 27 and the Hosokawa has 29 I found that switching officers worked with Mitsuhide have 13 for Tsutsui and Tenkie having 11 for Hosokawa, just to warn you that much like the rare resource plots being random so are the chances of getting a merchant that sells something it took me 4 tries to do it.
Akechi will always get the trust of whoever he is earning it with no matter what (15 first month then 14 second month and 13 third month) which add up to 42, for the other, make sure to hire tenkai and then send him and hope you can get an item through merchant before right at start
My exact strategy is buy any item right at start of scenario and send Akechi to Hosokawa and send Tenkai to Tsustui(Tsustui is 3 days closer so will receive the gift quicker and gain one extra point of diplomacy over the 3 month limit compared to if you gave it to Hosokawa) then after 2 months it will be Hosokawa 29 and Tsustui at 27, then i simply switch them as Akechi will improve Tsustui by 13 giving exactly 40 while tenkai will only increase it by 12 giving 39, but Tenkai will add 11 to Hosokawas 29 while Akechi adds 13 so both of them at that point will get Hosokawa to 40 but Only Akechi at this point can get Tsustui to 40 as well and before end of 3rd month both will hit 40 at pretty much the same time
i just gather all my troops en masse on the right side and put them all in between Akechi and all the other units and let them eat all the damage and keep Akechi as close to his max as possible and when the first help arrives have him assist the other units in moping up the riffraff and hope Hashiba hasnt gotten in range yet, and then i just wait for the huge finale event(you'll know it when you getit) and use that as my chance to go all out on monkey and take away his banana's as he has 0 chance at that point assuming your 2 main units from start are still decent shape
