Question about retainer play
Hi guys,

I'm on the fence about buying this but have a question having watched various streams. In Sphere of Ascension, it's largely played on the map of Japan - where various castle districts are upgraded on that same map, but zoomed in etc.

In Ascension, there's a whole other mini-map/area which shows the towns in much closer detail. Is this the retainer play? From what i can tell playing as a Diamyo uses that main map while retainer play can indivudally manage these towns. This seems like a cool feature, but i immediately thought you'd be spending your entire time in this area rather than focusing on the grand strategy map - and they seem disconnected anyway.

Can anyone comment on this, or explain the difference? It seems in Ascension if you play as a Daimyo, you'd be having that same/similar experience as Sphere of Influence, is that correct?

cheers! (confused)

As a retainer(officer) you are given your own domain that your player can manage and develop to your liking and it gives you food, troops, gold and resources depending on how you develop it, and this domain is seperate from everything else and has its own screen/view, however there is a button that you click on that allows u to switch between your personal domain map, and the grand strategy map, and you can do so at any time, and once you rank up to lord/regent you then get your own castle that you develop etcbut your domain will always be available to you.

And normally once you finish your domain completely, you'll never need to really worry about it no more as it will always give you resources behind the scenes while you focus on your howm castle on the grand map etc

So basically, yes there is a seperate town map you get as an officer, but you still have full access to the grand map etc, and even if you become a daimyo from an officer, your domain is retained, however if you start as a daimyo right from the start, you dont get a domain at all, till a time comes where you do become an officer(if you lose your last castle and and join your conquerer as officer)

Ah ok thanks for that, that makes it clearer. I know you can switch between the domain and the large map but i was wondering whether you also had multiple domains to manage. Seems just the one. It's an interesting take on the gameplay, i like the idea.
