Best Abilites/skills for Wizard?
Assuming I want to take the Magic elective, what skills or abilities would I find useful? I know Smarts and Magic are obviously important, but is there anything else? Perception seems good, but so does charm. I just started the game, so apologies if this is covered further in.

So the Magic elective really just gives you the ability to use runestones and the Sense Magic spell. There's no Wizard class or anything like that and you don't need high smarts or magic (you can boost magic with Sense Magic but there aren't any benefits to doing so, at least in my playthrough)

I completed the first elective and the only things I use magic for are the Spark runestone (extra damage on hit) and occasionally Incendia (aoe fire damage). Keep in mind that you can buy a Sol/Null runestone later on in the shop, so taking the advanced elective only gets you the Claustra stone (haven't used, might be good).

Okay, that takes some of the pressure off of being worried I'd build Shawn incorrectly I suppose.

Look at it this way: You are a Rogue with a useful hobby. That hobby can help you with your job, but it shouldn't be your focus in the game or you'll be lacking in basic Rogue skills when you need them. Train with that in mind.

I think that Magic and Perception are the only stats relevant to Magic class. Perception is good to have with or without studying magic. For other activities, Shawn will probably do best if he specializes in either Smarts, Charm, or Moxie, but it can be fun to work on two or all three of those. Most of the time you will choose an option such as, "Compliment them (Charm)", and will "succeed" in that if your Charm is high enough. So by focusing on one of those three and using it consistently, you'll both improve it and be more successful.
