Probably because the game is written in Unreal Engine by Epic and Epic Online Services is the most convenient way to add online functionality.

No, there's a an installer that downloads...

However, the game is not a straight clone of EC since I guess they have to reimplement everything. It felt different playing it. And it was laggy like hell for me. xD I think they need to work a lot more on it before it is a replacement for what EC was in its best days. Still, it's very impressive how far they have gotten.

Also, the devs are Russians which may prove to be a problem as that country isn't exactly in a stable situation right now with its invasion/genocide in Ukraine... a war Russia will lose even if it takes years, it's going far worse than the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

On the flip side, it's an obvious IP violation so the fact they're working on this in Russia is a reason for why it's even possible.

I meant the fact them making political stances like ever other company that has nothing to do with it, is dumb and not a big deal, not the conflict itself. Its literally expected in the kind of virtue signalling society we live in.
