Voice Acting
Something a little off-topic, though I know its been touched on.

I'm a war veteran. The voice acting in the WH40K:ET videos I've seen is awful. The dialogue sounds wooden and stiff, and to me it sounds as though it is men trying to sound tough.

I recommend improving that for one simple reason; it blows my immersion.

This may be nitpicky, but it bothers me enough for me to post about.

I agree with you... the only voices I like are eldar. Chaos marines sounds bit comic to me... like they are trying to be to much impressing. Night lords who are basing on fear cousing sounds rather funny. I am imagining chaos space marines as real long war veterans... more grim and dark. Loyalists however imo should be more "emotional" then they are. They "t" key warshouts doesn`t sound too encouraging. Can`t find any emotions in it, they are just recitating like some poor sidcom actor who slept bad last night...
I am also thinking that it would be nice if you will be able to choose what kind of voice you want for your character. 5 or 6 possibilities should be quite easy to get.
This is nothing important right now as there are so many things for devs to focus on but they should work on it before release.

It's on purpose.

The Astartes have always sounded overly-dramatic and angelic due to their roles as the poster bouys of the imperium.

The Chaos Marines are meant to sound linke insane zealots that have eaten too many barbed wire cookies.

Eldar are always meant to sound like soothing, sing-song elves.

And the Orks don't even need an explanation. They're the comic relief.

I`m against overly dramatic astartes voice, just as I`m against their robotic speech manner that we have now. What it lacks is some emotions in it.
Well... about chaos being zelots. Word bearers ok, perhaps Black legion. But it just don`t suit to Night lords and Alpha legion. Same with Iron warriors. Also I have no army experience but I think that insanity of soldiers doesn`t make them battle effective.
Horus also ate to many barbed wire cookies and when I`m reading how he is talking to his brother primarchs and soldiers in HH books I just can`t put that manner of speaking to it... He is grim and absolutely serious. Give him voice of ec chaos marine and all would call him "clownmaster" rather then "warmaster".
Anyway it is talking about personal preferances. Whatever Csm should sound I am still thinking that right now they are sound rather funny.

Take for instance, the voice actor from Space Marine. "Primary threat spotted." Ok, yes it was overly dramatic. However, it was believable. The actor had a deep english voice, or at least faked it well. The voice actors I've seen so far in EC sound like they are faking both. That's my primary problem.

Honestly I think Space Marine placeholder voices were better than the ones right now. Space Marines sound too forced and emotionless. However in my opinion the Chaos Space Marine voices are quite good excluding Helium Breathers (Word Bearers) ofcourse.

I think it will sound a bit better/different when they overlay the vox effect onto the current voice acting. Also, keep in mind, that Space Marines are transhuman super-warriors who live only to destroy the enemies of the God-Emperor...they shouldnt sound like normal humans. Wooden and stiff is...sensible.

Though, playing an Ultramarine, and hearing the line "and we will show no fear!" is...embarressing. Someone clearly typo'ed the script somewhere...as it should be "We shall KNOW no fear". It needs work...but id say its probably not finalized.
