If you want a good single player game buy space marine
If you want a fun multiplayer game that is like space marine, buy EC
Space marine has no multiplayer, no one plays it.
If you enjoyed space marine, chances are you will enjoy EC. If not, you can always refund it so long as you dont play over 2 hours
The pve part doesn't require a whole lot of people and can still be easily played with friends.
I suppose I should add that I'm not interested in buying EC right now if the gamepay is indeed very similar to Space Marine. I'd rather wait for a sale in that case.
Does EC have flyers, drop pods, etc? So far I've only seena predator or rhino. What about bikes, land raiders, all that stuff? I can't justify paying 50 euros to play space marine again except on larger maps with the occasional tank.
What abotu character development? Is that even a thing in EC? Space Marine had a perk like system. How does EC differ there?
There is a character development tree as you get points that you can invest in it. You can also change your gear, weapons and items
Is there a website where I could read more abotu the progression? Their website doesn't really go into any detail.
The gameplay is simular to space marine, with a few varied mechanics. Honestly despite the game having bugs i enjoy the gunplay in this game far more than i did in space marine multiplayer.
The only "flyers" it has are the Jump pack assault marines for SM/CSM. Orks with giant rockets on their back that do the same thing and the Eldar swooping hawk, which unlike the other 3 jump pack classes, they stay in the air and shoot from above, rather than ground pounding into melee.
The only vehicles in the game are the rhino, predator, and the vindicator on some maps. The vindicator is basically a rhino with a shovel on the front of it and a cannon that 1 shots everything.
As for character progression its pretty straight forward, you get advancement points for playing matches you then spend in a tree that unlocks new technology (such as more spells for warlocks etc) or makes the items cheaper to use (each class has a max of 1000 loadout points that determines what they can use at any given time).
The guns themselves you buy with requisition which is earned the same way, or you can buy loot boxes that have a chance of having them, which is by far the cheaper way. I got a 30k req plasma cannon from a 5k req box
Hmm, are those loadouts class based? Like, could I have a jump pack with a plasma gun or are you locked into melee weapons when using a jump pack (which I presume only assault marines get)?
The trailer seems to have a pretty large tree but I can't make out any details, nor can I seem to find it online.
SM is more polished and far more optimized ( so you dont have to worry that your i7 , 16gb , 980 machine wont be able to run it ) it has its fair share of bugs but no where near as much as EC .I think it looks better and it certanly has a better customization system in place , allowing you to customize any and all parts of your armor as you wish. People claim that you cant find games , but I can assure you that I didnt have to wait all that much before the matchmaker groups me with other players especially when I launch the PvE mode (which was done far better in SM) . Maps are smaller but they are incredibly more creative than what EC has to offer , and on top of that you get a singleplayer campaing all that for a price thats 10 times smaller .The curse and a blessing of SM is that it cannot really "DIE" since it has some sort of a Peer to Peer server tech , which alows players to become servers basically (and it tends to switch to players who have the best connection avaliable) . And if you compare the steam charts between these two games you will see that it had a simmilar (monthly average) playerbase to EC.
If you believe the promisses that the EC devs are making I would say go with the EC . If thats not the case you get a far better product with far more content for a far lower price tag if you purchase SM ( it was 5$ and less durring some steam sales) .
There are 5 classes (for SM/CSM)
Traitor/Tactical-Your basic marines that can use Bolters, Plasma Guns, Meltaguns
Devastator/Hacoc-Your heavies that can use Heavy Bolters, Plasma Cannons, Las Cannons, multi-meltas and for CSM Autocannons
Ground Assault-Your Jump pack marines without the jump packs, they can use Chainswords, Chainaxes, Power Swords, Power Mauls, Power Fists, Power Axes and for SM Storm Shields (basically a riot shield)
Assault/Raptor-Your Jump pack Marines, they can use the same thing the Ground asault can (minus the storm shield for SM)
Sorcerer/Apothecary-These 2 differ vastly between eachother, the apothecary can use Bolters or a chainsword, the sorcer uses a force sword or force axe. The apothecary heals by injecting people with his narthesium and the sorcerer heals with a stream of warp energy (basically the medic from TF2)
All of these classes (except Havoc/Devastator) can either equip a Bolt pistol or a Plasma Pistol as a secondary
So yes you can use a plasma pistol as an assault marine. There is however no perk like True Grit which in space marine allowed you to use Tactical weapons as an assault marine, only melee/pistol. Cant use a full fledged bolter
The tech tree like i said though is primarily used for lowering the loadout cost of the guns, the only things you unlock in it to actually use is Armor, Spells for sorcerer, the different chaos god markings which give various bonuses, and trinkets which are minor boosts you equip. For space marine i believe instead of spells you unlock various poisons that the apothecary can use while meleeing people with his narthesium
For example, some of trinkets give you +15 to armor which means you can take an extra bullet before you die. Others give you HP, some give you increased stam regen etc.
The guns themselves you either buy with requisition that you are rewarded at the end of the match equal to your XP that you gained, or the boxes with the same currency. The boxes are what also give you the weapon attachments (such as scopes, grips, barrles etc)
Given the games history I'm not particularly confident that the Devs will keep their promises either. So if I'm going to pay for the game, I'll judge it based on what it has at that time and not expect any major changes.
Right now the things that could potentially sway me are the fact that it has psykers and some form of progression and possibly more freedom in loadouts. I'd rather not buy the game to try ingame for 2 hours in order to find out if that's good enough though. Can't seem to find much on the net :S
Wait you can customize weapons? Oo That sounds kinda cool.
