What Does the L in LSM Stand for?
I would not say I am the most upto date fan on all the abbreviation and terminology.

So Could somone please give me a list of upto date abbreviation and terminology.

Cos when I go to read the Fourms on eternalcrusade it is filled with random babble that I have no idea what they are saying and if your new or dont follow the Lore / game that much there no point in reading.

Its like trying to learn what a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ kid is saying when they only choose to speak in Text format?

Loyalist Space Marines, to abbreviate and differentiate them from Chaos Space Marines, or CSM.

LSM was new for me too. It pretty much only exists within this community for whatever reason, at last from what I can tell.

One could argue most other WH40k communities are smart enough to differntiate between SM and CSM. xD

One could also argue that the L was added by the Eldar and Ork community so they could better address the situation by having a way to address either LSM or CSM or.... both of them at once by SM.

The table top community doesn't really need to address both factions at once when talking about balance. But here in EC... the two factions share so many similarities that its easier to just say SM for both of them...

Of course i am just guessing here.

From my admittedly-poor memory of events that I only payed occasional bursts of attention to, this is basically the case. When EC first went through its alpha stages and testing, LSM and CSM were basically clone factions. Lots of things got gradually added in to diversify them, but even now, like in the TT, you can still see all the ways in which they were drawn from a common source. So 'SM' became the abbreviation to refer to both Chaos AND Loyalists, usually about something that related to or affected both of them (for instance, how Bolters were complete ♥♥♥♥ for a really long time, is one thing that comes to mind), which just sort of organically forced LSM as an abbreviation for the Loyal Space Marines specifically.

But yeah, I do believe it seems to be something completely unique to EC. In every other aspect of 40K I've ever dealt with, people usually just use SM to refer to normal Space Marines and CSM for Chaos.

The L stuck because it was irritating the loyalist fanbase to no end initialy (no joke). They acted like they were better than everyone else so when the other three factions found a button to press to irritate some of them it just stuck. In retaliation the lsm cried out about several other factions having good stuff and got them nerfed while at the same time trying to defend to the dearth their right to have absurd weapons like the original plasma cannon. It's always a good ol time over on the EC forums we like to push eachothers buttons.

If you wanna go trigger a bunch of people atm go start a thread there saying ranged is too weak and melee needs a nerf XD always good for a laugh.

I also wondered about this but than moved on thinking its just dumness on some dum peoples part.

I played DoW 1 mp for ages.. that game has like 9 WH40k factions and the term "LSM" never even came up once..
People usualy said "chaos",necron, tau,"space marine(s)" etc. but never added additional lines to the factions names lol.

Heck.. there even is a game called "Space Marine".. rofl.. imagine it was called Loyalist Space Marine.. wtf.
But w/e.. waste of time rly.

IIRC it has something to do with the tabletop. I may have contributed to calling them LSM, may not have. It was a very long time ago.

It's shorthand for Loyalist and Chaos. You can't refer to them as just L or C, that's freaking confusing. They're both Space Marines so you can't just say SM either. Also the 3 letter abbreviation for both factions is very fitting

However, I personally call them LSM because both CSM and LSM are Space Marines. If you just say Space Marines someone might think about Chaos Space Marines
I guess it's different from person to person but I can easily differentiate between chaos and space marines.

If you were new to this game and 40k in general, how would you know what I meant when I say "Space Marines are really strong"? There's two factions called Space Marines

The 'L' stands for 'Locust'
Starbreaker Zed Apr 2, 2017 @ 9:53am
As I recall, back in 2015 many posts were referring to SM as specifically the loyalists and many were referring to SM as both space marine factions...

Forcing the LSM designatiom by the community helped differentiate those ambiguous posts, as many of the responses were always things like "which space marines are you talking about" or "loyalists don't have [x]", etc.
And there was me thinking the 'L' meant 'Lame', haha.
