Unable to claim horse head gift + Do you have to start a new universe for the new island?

What it says on the tin, tried to claim the horse head on the 20th but was told to come back later for a gift. Do I need to do so on a new universe try on another universe or was I already to late.

Also, do I need to start a new universe for the Landlubber's Leap?

Hi - You need to regenerate your universe in order to see some of the new content, including Landlubber's Leap.

Unless of course you've just tried to get the item now. It was only available for this weekend, so that might be the reason why you've encountered this issue.
