Now i never tried the drill for instance i dunno if you can possible run while mining with it, then it'd be a good choice i guess, but otherwise... what you might have found out yourself, Pickaxe and Axe take the same amount of hits right now.
Don't worry, the Mining Claw is very useful, your other tools won't do much on Gems at all. Example : Angel's Diamonds = 2 hits with a Titanium Mining Claw. You were using the Mining Claw on Ore silly ! You use the Pickaxe on those, the Mining Claw is only for Gems.
The Gems are as follows: Verdant Emerald (Green), Flame Ruby (Red), Cosmic Opal (Darker Purple), Angel's Diamond (Yellow), Frost Sapphire (Blue) and Electro Quartz (Lighter Purple).
Some tips for gearing i can give you would be that the game in it's current state is just really, really easy. You don't need survivability at all, you can literally sidestep all attack's basically and if you really needed to, you can also roll.
Crafting a full set of items is never a good idea, mix and matching is the best way as of right now. Basically going full dmg is the best thing you can do at the moment.
Best dmg gear for all classes seems to be: Assassin's Hood, Assassin's Tunic, Assassin's Gauntlets, King's Boots, Watchman Cape and Holy Ring of Battle. I don't think there is any point in changing the gear based on class choice. If you really don't need/want the melee dmg of the Assassin's Gauntlets, just take the King's Gauntlets instead.
Also, of course, Using Enrage is a must, and especially if you're using a Hyperion, you should also be using War Cry, because the buffs stack and you can reset them quickly enough to do so at least with that weapon.
Hope i could help you out !
As i've said, Axe and Drill are currently useless because they require the same amount of hits as other tools for wood/dirt, even tho that shouldn't be the case.
I don't even know what you're talking about, so what makes the drill special compared to any other tool ? The drill is only for dirt, nothing else so why would ores or gems matter ?
EDIT: Alright, since i've felt the drill was too much of a waste of 8 Titanium Bars, i avoided crafting it so far. I've checked a video and it seems you can mine multiple blocks at once (like above/next to one another), but still it would only be useful for dirt in any case, unless they screwed up dmg on that thing aswell.
So the point stands, craft it only if you have enough stuff left over that you really don't need, as it's mostly pointless. Other tools (i.e titanium pickaxe for instance) will only take 1 swing to destroy a block of dirt, so if you have a bunch of left over mats you know you won't need, go for it. If you don't and only need to mine a little bit of dirt anyways, don't bother with it.
First of all i wasn't confused :P i just found it kinda pointless to literally write down the descriptions of the tools.
And also, i hope you mean that you just don't mine gems at all, because you can't possibly mean the Pickaxe is as good as the Claw for that. The Pickaxe is really horrible for gems, for cosmic opals you need like... 9 swings i believe lol. Whereas the Claw requires about 3 for the same one.
In any case, getting the Titanium Pickaxe, Titanium Mining Claw, and finally Titanium Mining Drill is the best you can do right now, as the Axe is utterly useless, but the Drill is literally only for dirt so make sure you have enough mats you don't need as i've said.
It digs out more, and faster than any tool.
Even the wrong tool, because it hits so fast.
Or if the drill dug out dirt even faster/larger, but really sucked against ores.
This is very true!!
i also carry the titanium pickaxe for precision and reach when building, though.
The drill is very good for gems because they are usually grouped together.
