How to Multiplayer / Co-Op
I hope this short guide will help some people figure out how to join their friends.

First; you and your friend(s) must be friends on steam.

Second; you and your friend(s) must be playing the same version of the game. There is the normal version and a beta version.

Third; the player who is going to host the game must select the "allow friends" option for your single player world. Then start your single player world. You will be alone at this point.

Fourth; your steam friends can now go to the character menu and select "join". They need to click the top right tab that says "friends" and the hosts world will show up on the list.

Lastly; if the host loses internet or gets a game crash then all other players will be kicked from the world.

I hope this helps some people. I understand that this wont solve every issue and that some issues are bugs in the game.

I will try and update this when I get home and can get more info from steam and in-game. If you have any constructive criticism and would like to help out, please post it.

Guide doesn't matter, anyone with a brain can figure that out but problem is, the games don't show up even if all these settings are correct.

Okey did you try turning it off and turning it back on kennys?
Montezuma Feb 28, 2016 @ 9:53am
Funny thing is, multiple people have stressed that issue and your response, Robby, is practically what they're saying

PK_CM505: "Have you tried making sure it's set to friends?"

Anyone fed up with this MP: "Fuc- YES, WHEN IS THERE GOING TO BE A SIMPLE FIX?"

PK_CM505: "I don't know what you're talking about, I feel you don't have your setting set to friends."

Kennys,

The best thing to do in your situation is to post a bug report on their forums, http://www.portalknights.com/forums/

This game just released in early access and is now being played on many different machines that may not completely agree with the games coding.

When posting your bug report detail exactly what your in game settings are as well as the game version and your computer specs.

I also encourage anyone and everyone who is having issues with the game to submit detailed bug reports. The more information the developers have the faster they will be able to pinpoint and fix the issue.

I appreciate people giving feedback on this (though some of your are being a little harsh about it) because I want to buy this game for my 6 year old son and I to play. I'll be investing in two copies so I want to make extra sure it will work on LAN / Co-op for us. We play Minecraft and Creativerse that way and they work great. We don't play on internet MP servers because he's so young, we just focus on our own duo building/adventuring together.

Is this working for some players and not others? I really want to get the game while it's on EA sale but hesitant if we'll have troubles connecting via LAN. Are there port forwarding issues for routers?

I already have posted a bug report and Envie, no one has really talked about LAN, I bet if you search discussion for "LAN" you'll find something

and to continue on that bug report, I completed the report on the release day, made multiple posts etc etc, posted in multiple threads, send a friend request and email. No acknowledgement for CO-OP issue because I assume they see it as "fixed"

Ok thanks for the response. I realize there's a difference between playing LAN in the same household / same router and Multiplayer where you connect with friends so maybe the two issues are not related at all. I don't even know at this point if private LAN is even possible or the only way to connect is through the current method of Friend/MP/Steam connect.

LAN should work, not sure though, don't have anyone else with the game in my house. Multiplayer is a gamble though, if you add your son on steam there is about a 50% chance you wont be able to connect to his game vice-versa, but you may and it is actually quite enjoyable, til you realize mobs arent scaled up :P
Vexare Feb 28, 2016 @ 11:13am
When you say mobs aren't scaled up - you mean it doesn't matter whether there's 1 player or 4, the monsters are still 1 player difficulty?

For us that won't be a huge issue I guess, he's only six so his contribution to the combat isn't very pro yet anyways. ;)
Montezuma Feb 28, 2016 @ 11:14am
yeah, it won't be scaled up. and another father son duo wanted to build in a castle, I'll save you the hastle and mention that if there is a mob in a building, it'll respawn in that spot, just an fyi before you move in

Ok thanks for the tip! Mom and son duo here! We play Creativerse and Minecraft together and I realize this game is more on the level of RPG, not builder but that's where I'm trying to introduce him into new gaming types instead of just open world builders so I thought this game might be a great transition to 'adventuring' and duo combat play.

Oh then that should be great, the worlds are relatively small so it'll be a good environment that'll create a sense of boundary, hopefully they create an open-world type mode eventually.

Yes exactly why I like what I'm seeing of it so far. Some players are complaining in reviews about how small and linear the worlds are but that's actually quite helpful for me since I'm trying to teach him about 'leveling' a character in a smaller environment. MMO style games can be very overwhelming so I thought this one looked much more contained and focused. Might not be what everyone else was expecting though.

Oh yeah, that's where others tend to be complaining about features they haven't added in an Early Access game. I'm complaining about the general Co-Op not working, which they should at least have prepared for release. It's a great game, boss fights everything. It's a cute, more friendly version of Minecraft, with Minecraft + Zelda or Banjo Kazooie / Tooie aspects which make it well-rounded than the average clone of a building block game. It's fun, I enjoyed it and still will play it, would just like to see a functioning Co-Op screen so I could play with my friend. We had hype before the launch and it's slowly dying day by day without a fix for us.
