Steam - Error Failed to Start Game - Unknown Error

What is this error. I can't even launch the game.

I got the same problem. It won't start the game, and it seem like nothing appear to show an error.

Not all the time, but certainly for plenty of people. It's common on Steam games. I'm just listing the more well known fixes to check off. The error you have can be Steam or Game related.

That error is annoying since there's like a dozen things you can try to fix it and you won't really know what it is until you go through them all.

Try running the game in admin mode along with steam in admin mode. You can try changing your DEP settings but that isn't usually needed. Restarting the PC sometimes works (after you've made the other changes that is).

I don't recommend having Steam startup with your PC either. Run it manually.

Which OS are you running btw?

I'm having the same issue. Downloaded and installed it, tried all the recommended fixes and also running it with the hotfix in Beta mode and nothing gets it past the failed to start game error. Running Windows 7 for an OS here.

It loaded just fine on my fiance's laptop, she's running Windows 10. So much for a fun night playing a new game together =(

I tried to run it in Steam, common folder, and look like I can't run because it's msvcr120d.dll is missing.

Only thing left I can think of off the top of my head besides what I mentioned already is disabling the microsoft background apps and antivirus to see if any of those are interfering with the startup. That would require a PC restart afterwards.

If you want to try that make sure you know which ones you turn off/on so you can put things back the way it was.
