Larger island (2018)?
I have searched for this pattern in the forums, and with no surprise, there are already lots of threads on the matter, but most of them are quite old.

So I'm bringing the subject to the table again, just got Portal Knights, and I loved it. We played a bit split screen my son and I, and I bought him a copy so we can play together. His first steam game!

I love the game, however, I think the islands are really small. It's a nice alternative to minecraft way of doing things, with the biome blending, and I believe this "feature" is more likely a limitation of the game engine.

So maybe we have islands since the game cannot blend biomes? Another reason could be performance? If the sand box was like 128 blocks deeps, plus I dunno, 128-256 blocks high from ocean level, maybe the game couldn't handle this?

Maybe the islands were really a concept of the game afterall, but more options in the create world menu would be nice.

I also noticed that every game I start, the first biome is always the same, and second is always desert too... is that normal?

I like to dig... and explore... find caverns, etc... so far, its an aspect in portal knights that seems very light, or even missing.... I got up to third portal, and no big undergrounds to explore....

Yeah that is normal. Also I should note that the 1st few biomes are rather small regardless of where you set max island size.

They get bigger, so do not let the 1st few being small throw you off on the judgement. By 10th or so, you will have trouble finding things (like every npc in area) if you have it set too large. Even on medium there is a vast difference between 1st few areas, and later biomes.

Ok thanks! How about depth? Are there any undergrounds?

If you like deep dungeon dives be sure to go to the special events listed below:

Mysterious Portal
(event pops-up at times on top-Left side of universe map after the 1-XX and some 2-XX islands are open). I believe event is open for 3 hours. Go to island were event is open. Defeat enemy- activate portal with GREEN or may require RED portal stones. You will travel to Island “Morteheim Guildhall”. Here you will fine T/C in buildings in the area and some deep dungeons to explore.

Tomb of C’Thiris
To get there go to Level lV (4) Alchemy Table and craft C’Thiris Tesseract. Place Tesseract in player action bar, select, and activate. Tomb of C’Thiris event is all about exploring a deep-deep Temple dungeon available for 6 hours. You can travel in and out as long as player does not defeat The Curse of C’Thiris. If player defeats Curse the island will no longer be accessible when player leaves. Player can craft Tesseract again and go back at a later date.

The Pillars and Their Temple
(event open for 12-hours) event pops-up at times on top-Left side of universe map after most of the 1-XX islands are open). Go to island were event is open and find Metafis.
Metafis is from Isle of Kolemis sent to find fighters skilled enough to defend there sacred site. Open (smash) the small brown box (he calls a chest) sitting on the Classic Cupboard with some pottery and use Artifact (Kolemis Tesseract) to travel to Kolemis. Arrive at Kolemis and you see 3 Temples and an exit Portal. You are now in part two (2) called Kolemis Temple Trials. Explore the 3 large Temple Dungeons.

If you like digging tunnels and looking for things the game has 3 hermits that live way underground. The only clues on where to find them is to be lucky and hear them talk when you are close to them. Just dig, look, listen. Also do not be surprised to find a treasure chest or two deep down at the bottom of most islands where the only way to get there is dig.

Garnet Peaks (1-05)
Crazy Gonzoalo (underground somewhere)

Autumn Springs (1-06)
Lonely Lenny (underground somewhere)

Witchwater (2-04)
Azak the Hermit (underground or on a small cliff at the bottom of the island in small hut with campfire)
