Inventory's purple button

What does the purple button at the bottom right of the inventory do? (the square with an arrow symbol). Twice now I've accidentally sent items there and they just vanish. What is that button for and is there a way to retrieve those items.

It is used to pass an item in your backpack to another player. If item is placed in that slot by accident you will see item floating nearby. Run away from the item then run back and item should return to you backpack
