Can't find the portal.

I am on 1-05. Got a compass and a beast portal on the island. I have found one that leads to a dead end and the other one is nowhere to be found, while it shows on the map there should be one more. My issue is that the compass KEEPS pointing to the beast portal and not to the other one and it's really really really irritating me and I'm about to give up. I have litterally scoured everywhere from every building to every location where it could be.

The island is called Garnet Peaks.

The regular portal on Garnet Peaks (which leads to Plains of Passage) should be in the dungeon at bottom of the tall tower. It's the same building where Hector the Guard is found. There are a lot of gates/doors in the dungeon...make sure you found them all.

Find the spot where it should be. Dig directly down. Voila! Portal. Skip all the bs.

Portal #1 : leading to Plains of Passage
Portal #2: Beast Portal

That's all there is.

Areas that lead to Garnet Peaks:
Shrieking Sands
Port of Caul

There is no portal the other way back.
Always only a portal that brings you to a landing pad on a new island.
If you check the lines connecting islands on the map,
there is a suggested direction for the portal leading to to landing pad

once you unlock a portal, it no longer shows on the compass.
So make sure you unlock it, and then follow the compass wherever [else] it leads. And if you end up on top of it, Look up and then dig down.

Can't help you, but I do agree, the compass thing doesn't see to work for me either. It just points off the edge of island into space...

That must be the red arrow, pointing north.

To use the compass:
Hotbar it
Press that slot (number or manual)

Now you get a small number of dazzling mini portal blocks of the corresponding color.
If they're all dancing around you, the portal is directly below or above.

Yeah I do know that. It was just simply bugged. Had to go via another island to get to the portal. Once there, it had a gateway to the island with the missing portal, somehow.

There are 2 kind of land mark I known.
Circular pillars landmark is over the closed dungeon below.
Monument (or something like that...) is over th closed area with treasure box.

Go to 1-04 Shrieking Sands and talk to the person that should be in front of you they will have you do a quest to go find something to trade for the missing piece to the beast totom. The Beast totom is the portal that you need to go through if you talk to it it tells you to find the missing piece that has gone astray

You did know that not all portal-lines are two way, right?
You might be on an island that has a portal to it, but not a gate out to another.

I was having the same issue - the compass just kept pointing to a portal I'd already unlocked, and it was driving me bonkers. Then I dug straight down from the unlocked portal. Bingo! I'm still bonkers, but at least I unlocked Plains of Passage.
